As I was walking through the living room yesterday afternoon I saw several trucks across the street. Finally....the city decided to trim all of the dead branches that hovered above the driveway to this little house (that just sold at the end of August). I missed seeing them getting cut off but got to watch the removal of the top of the tall tree.
He had a rope attached to the half he just cut off and he lowered himself and the branch to the ground. He returned to the top and got the last section cut off.
Then it was time to cut off the tall section. He cut several sections while I was out of the room. Here he had just cut off a chunk and gave it a shove and it is starting to fall to the ground.
This is how it looked when they left. I think the chainsaw he was using was too small to cut any more of it. I wonder if they will cut more or leave this "beautiful" tree as it is. It was great entertainment watching them and I'm so relieved that the new occupants of the house won't have to worry about their car being smashed as they pull into the driveway. I was outside when a big limb broke off and landed at the end of the driveway several years ago. Crack...thud!! The occupants had just arrived home shortly before that.
This photo was taken 3 years ago, same tree before more branches died.
I started 3 more dishcloths. They all have 25 stitches but the one on the left is smaller than the other 2. That ball of yarn is from several years ago and the other 2 are newer. The newer yarn isn't quite as soft as the older yarn.
No other fiber related activities took place yesterday. I was going through stacks and sorting. I have several storage boxes without lids and lids without boxes so I'm hoping to unearth some surprises as I continue working on this.

Nice start to your dishcloths...;))) 59 here early this morning...one of those up and down nights for me!!
Speaking of trees, so far, no colors have appeared here--maybe just a few maples are starting to color up on a few leaves....not enough cold nights i think as yet...
Hope your upcoming weekend is a good one...
Hugs, Julierose
Our neighborhood used to be all bur oak trees but that was before 1950. It's sad when a tree has to come down but a dead tree is both dangerous and unsightly.
The fall picture of the tree with its beautiful colors is a nice tribute to the tree’s long life. It is fascinating to watch trees being taken down. Somehow ropes and chain saws seem like an accident waiting to happen but experienced tree service folks make it look like child’s play.
It is good that they finally cut the worst of that dangerous tree down!
If the city is the one doing the limb removal, chances are (if they operate like around here), the main trunk will remain until the property owner has it removed (something about the upper portion being a threat to the utilities network but the trunk not being a threat). I agree, watching is fascinating.
You are building up quite an inventory of dishcloths. I'm glad they got the tree taken care of. They can be very dangerous when they are left standing with dead branches,
it is interesting to watch the tree cutters at work. The few times we had hired someone to cut some trees it provided an interesting morning to me watching how they do it.
I love the happy colors of your new dishcloths! My hands have never played together well enough for me to knit or crochet. They do everything else, though, so I have no complaints!
I look forward to seeing what you've found in those boxes!
A few days in the 80s*F and we'll be back in the 70*s. No complaints there either.
Hugs!
That was a monstrous TALL tree ! We have our Ponderosa Pine trees cut back every 5 years. They are only 10 feet in front of our house and the first time my husband brought up the subject of topping them off I said…no ~ if one falls on the house, we could remodel. 🤭 Now I’m too old to want to remodel and redecorate. The trees are still 40 and 50 feet tall and trunks are 8 ft. circumference.
I love watching professional tree people. They are so coordinated that it's like a ballet.
The owner of the house next door to me is converting the house back to a single family (from 2 appts, up and down). He is having several trees removed, including a Silver Maple that I feared was going to topple over and hit my car. The tree service is now working on a Black Walnut tree that is probably 70 feet tall. They have a similar truck, but instead of a bucket to carry a person up, it has a device with two big claws and a chainsaw like blade that a person manipulates from the base of the crane. It's fascinating and looks like someone playing a video game with a controller. They've run into a snag getting the two highest branches down, so we're all waiting in anticipation to see how they solve the problem.
