Cutting..........

I do most of my die cutting on the large Studio die cutter but when I go to a sew-in I take the little GO! baby cutter.  I took the die for finished 1.5" x 3" rectangles and a pile of batiks scraps yesterday.

Here are the by-products: a pile of scraps for dog bed filling, a small pile of scraps large enough to cut 1.5" squares and a pile of narrow scraps for improv piecing.   Nothing went into the trash bin.

I am still sorting my batik squares. Hope to get done soon so I can start a colorwash. Your fabric looks amazing!

I purchased a Go Baby and found I can create a host of blocks with it. Don't have one of the large cutters, but the Go Baby meets my needs. Found mine on Ebay at a real bargain. I keep a lookout for dies at Ebay, Amazon.

I often use the batik trim bits in my weaving to add pops for color and texture.

It is amazing how far quilting has come from cardboard templates and cutting with scissors to the fancy die cutters!

I also collect all my trimmings for dog beds. Isn't it great to keep them out of the trash? My problem is finding a place to take the dog beds, since we're rarely in any one place for very long. I'm hoping to give away a batch in Memphis in a couple of weeks, so I better start my research now. Animal shelters are often bad about returning phone calls and emails!

I am always in awe at how well you use every single piece of fabric.

Wanda, I have never thought about using scraps for a pet bed....I don't have a dog, but I do have a very special kitty who loves to snuggle. I love the idea that I can use little snippets of fabric and make a bed for him. Thanks so much for sharing that little tidbit!
Love all those little pieces you cut...looks like a productive day.

Wanda,

I noticed you have chalk marks on your square die. Can you tell me what those marks are for?

Thanks ,

Mara

I love it when nothing is wasted! I found a group here recently that makes dog beds so I'm happy that I can save every little scrap of fabric and batting.

Do you have more information or a tutorial on the dog beds you make?
