To calm me down I chose some fabrics for the quilt. Kathy used Marcia Derse fabrics and Kaffe stripes in addition to large prints. I could only find 9 large prints in my huge stash that I thought really might work together. There are 12 big prints in the one in the book. I have NO IDEA if these will work. It is an experiment for sure. My 2 friends are coming over to sew today so I will do some cutting and hopefully sew at least one block. I want to work on my Farm Girl Vintage quilt blocks too.
I have set the dates for a colorwash class at my house in Sandwich IL - Wed. and Thurs. Oct. 19 & 20. If you are interested in it email me at exuberantcolor2 (AT) gmail (DOT) com and I will send you details. It can be a one day or two day class for you. If you choose one day the size of the piece you are making will be restricted to no larger than 36" square.

very pretty fabrics I hope they work out for you. I am a fairly good housekeeper except for dust - I hate dusting!!
Your fabric choices are very pretty, seems to go together very well. When we moved, I found the worst dust under my bed near the headboard. Now I think I will take apart my bed each year to clean it. Those dust balls were several years worth, but they embarrassed me.
I do not dust either but when I do it only takes a few minutes.
Love the variety of fabrics you picked out for a new masterpiece.
I love it when you start something new. I love watching the progress and how you produce such lovely blocks and placement. Enjoy your day with your friends - can't wait to see tomorrow's first block :)
Can't wait to see how your quilt turns out. Hurry!
Love all those stripes! I have always been amazed at Kathy's quilts because of the large prints that she uses. When you look at those prints as individuals, they don't seem to go together at all, but when they are put together in a quilt they are fabulous together. I don't know how she does it!
I almost bought that book but then I read the reviews and some were a bit negative. One lady thought there wasn't enough negative space in the creation, and I may tend to agree with her and another mentioned there was a lot of use of aboriginal patterns.
I am very curious to see how you will interpret the pattern.
(Book is still on my Amazon wish list ...)
I have the book - and I am intrigued by several of the pieced projects. I will not be using the same types of fabrics shown but a scrappy mix from the stash. Will be fun to watch you experiment with your glorious colors.
Love your choices! I too have the book, lots of wild colour & ideas, heaps of inspiration for a make-it-mine version!
Looks like a few of us have the book! There are three in there marked for "future projects". I have collected a few fabrics from my stash which I think should work for Colour Works. For something quite different I marked Into The Woods.
I love Kathy's books and will have to add this one to my list.
That fabric pull is a color feast for the eyes!
"To calm me down I chose some fabrics for the quilt." You are funny! These aren't calm colors Wanda, but I'm glad they helped you - I think they are lovely together.
It's amazing how dust collects in and around things we never move!
I love the choice of fabrics!
OOO! I am loving the fabrics you picked! Can't wait to see how this turns out.
