I know it is August when..........

.....this hosta with the sweet smelling flower blooms.  It is the largest hosta and is always the last to come up, the last to bloom.

The elephant ear plant has 3 large leaves now but doesn't grow much in height.  Maybe it will keep growing taller with 2 more months of good weather.

I'm still playing with the idea of posting all of the Kaffe fabrics.  I think maybe this might be the way to do it.  A piece of the yardage shows the pattern better than a tiny swatch and the ruler gives you the idea of the size of the print.  I think I will look for a solid ruler (not see through).  If I start another blog with the photos on it then all of the photos will be in one spot instead of scattered all through this blog.  This print is in quilts in a book published in 1999 by Westminster.

Becky @ the beach, you are a NO REPLY.  I can't contact you unless you enable your email address in your profile or you can contact me with my email link on my right sidebar or the email link in my Blogger profile.

I have the same hosta; I always knew when I smelled the flower it was time to get ready to go back to school. Even now I am retired and smelling that flower makes me think of school. How powerful smells are!

With our drought, my hostas look real wimpy and sad. They can barely muster a bloom, just like the Endless Summer hydrangeas. The unrelenting heat and dryness have taken a toll on my usually lush garden. Still, any flower is better than no flower.

I can't have hosta because the deer eat the leaves so all you are left with are stems. I miss not having them in my yard.

Oh, love the ganzia flower! It's one of those colorful flowers that inspire me with their color combinations (color combinations chosen by God!.....lol) I always loved a strong pink and golden yellow together. People would say the colors didn't go together (I once painted my room that bold pink and some of the furniture a golden yellow)..but there is a 'classic' camellia that is pink with the golden center......so if God says it's ok, then it's officially ok! I don't remember this Ganzia fabric. Wow, it really captures the beauty of the flowers.
I can't wait to see what fabric #5 is!!!

I don't have an opinion about posting the fabrics but an idea to tape a piece of white paper under the ruler to make it opaque.

Hi Wanda, instead of creating a new blog, you could try creating a page on your existing blog for the Kaffe documentation. That would keep it all in one place, and allow you to add to it over time (I think). I haven't tried it myself, but it looks fairly easy to do.

I would be very interested to see all the Kaffe fabrics documented together. This is the type of project I think of starting but am then put off by the huge amount of work. My favourites are the woven stripes. Hazel.

Hi Wanda, I have been watching your Kaffe Fasset posts with interest. I have a piece of Kaffe Fasset fabric that I have been trying to date and wondered if you might know. I found their website but it wasn't on there anywhere and only goes back to 2009. Would it be ok if I send you a picture?

have been reading your blogs
and admiring your work for years
each time i see your projects and garden
just find it hard to believe how prolific you are
i'm a gardener and quilter
but no matter how i try
cannot ever hope to reach your status
thank you for the inspiration
and enabling me to believe
that one day i can perhaps come close
to achieving a fraction of what you accomplish
in what seems the shortest amount of time...
