Cutting diamonds............

Here is one photo I forgot to put in yesterday's post showing the contents of a drawer.

I started cutting diamonds with my die cutter.  This is the leftover of one of the smaller stratas.  I can sew those 2 ends together and cut another diamond.

And here it is.

This of course is creating a lot of leftovers too small to piece together for more diamonds.  I wish I could make my hand drop them in the wastebasket, but I can't.

I just put the diamonds up on the design wall as I cut them.  There were a few stratas not wide enough to get a diamond with crosswise stripes so I cut them lengthwise.  I don't know if they will stay in the project.

I'm planning on looking through my batiks and cutting some plain diamonds from them too.  I know I have one with bears and other wild animals in similar colors.  I think I have some tree batiks too.  I have no idea what I am making.  I'm hoping the blocks will tell me what they want to be.

Not sure what you are making, but having fun doing it. Use the leftovers as centers for crazy string blocks. I am sure you will figure it out. Always outside the box with your quilting. Chris

I love the look of this one! Your scrap pile is a diamond mine!

I really like the lengthwise diamonds in there. It is a bit of a surprise and as my art teacher would say "it is repetition with variation". And that is one element of good design.

I'm always amazed at what you come up with from your scraps! Always another beautiful quilt, no matter how it comes together. Your strip quilt from a couple of days ago turned out so nice, too!

here's a scrap-management question: did you cut those crooked strips especially to make those stratas out of them? or did you make the stratas from strips that were leftover from cutting for a different project? .... by the way, I kind of like the lengthwise diamonds.

Good morning Wanda.....I too, like the vertical diamonds and can see a very pretty runner or two in those diamonds. We have a busy week, so won't get much sewing done.

What a neat idea diamonds from stripped starts, I love the colours you have up there so far, what size are the diamonds?

Those diamonds look great. Love the colors. Yes, stripped strata really makes those diamonds sing.

Fascinating to look at all the differences in the fabrics .... Love your comment about keeping/tossing the smallish leftovers!
