Out of practice...........
You would think that since I wrote a tutorial for making journal covers that I should be successful at making them. I pulled out a sheet of paper with measurements written on it and thought they were the ones I had used last time. I faced the patchwork, turned it right side out and quilted it only to find out it was 1/2" too short for the notebook. I could mount it on ultrasuede and then it could be finished.
I decided to jump right in and try another one right away. On this one the quilting lines are evenly spaced, and it fits the notebook. When I made the last covers, I made lots of them at one time. That way it is all fresh in my mind exactly how to do every part of it. After waiting a year since I made the last ones, I just couldn't get into the swing of it. I am not going to give up though. I plan on making at least a dozen of them next week.
Here it is all stretched out. It is kind of plain so I'm going to see if i can jazz it up today.

Looks good to me too. I need to go back and find that tutorial. Maybe I could whip a few up before Christmas.
Great fabrics and colors in your covers. Don't give up on the one that's too small...just make your own custom sized signatures and sew them in.
I think this weekend may give you plenty of time to work on those journal covers, Wanda. It sounds like we've got quite the storm coming in.
I love the colors you chose for this one and hope you'll share the others you make on your blog as well.

Oh, I thought I was the only one who forgot how I made things in the past. I love the colours you have used. So inspirational! I think I should make a few of these myself.

That is really beautiful in the purple batiks. I would adore one of these myself. I think we're in for a big storm again, so this will be a good weekend to sew.
Can't wait to see what you do to jazz it up, those fabrics are jazzy enough for me. BUT I know you will make me swoon when I see your embellishment.

Wonderful idea ! And how frustrating......I do the same thing when I go back to make something I've made before. It takes a while to get my groove back.

I just borrowed a walking foot for my older Bernina 830 and am looking forward to trying it out..... this would be a perfect project.
Can you believe a new walking foot is $150.00+ at the Bernina store. I am thankful to my friend who loaned me hers.

I remember your previous post on the journal covers and have always wanted to make some, but time eludes me. Nice range of cool colors.
I also forget how to do some things that I've repeated over and over again--if I let time pass before doing it again.
What REALLY frustrates me is when my written instructions don't make sense when I read them. We crafty, quilting ladies must think we don't need every single step described in detail--but sometimes that's exactly what I need.
This is a lovely group of fabrics together.
