A little design time........

I found several red flannels to use as the alternate blocks in the denim embroidery quilt.  I also found a couple more snowman blocks that I could use.  One was too small so I added strips around it.  Also the Garfield block was too small so it got strips added too.  I made the mitten block last night as well as starting an embroidery of a reindeer bearing gifts.  I will finish that one today.  The green to the right of the blocks is the only green that I found that was bright enough, but I think I will leave it out and just use the red.
I cut up another pair of jeans from my huge pile of them.  This is the amount I throw away after cutting the usable parts.

I want to make my teenage grandson a quilt and thought of using denim and flannel, so glad to see that the idea has been done and is successful! I thought of going to the local thrift store but your idea of putting a request out to family members for old jeans would probably produce more than enough, thanks! Oh, love your denim squares and the red is really an awesome addition!

It looks great with the red flannel. This will be a very warm quilt with the weight of the denim and the softness of the flannel. My kind of quilt for the winter!

Nice combination of fabrics. When you use a heavy fabric like denim, do you still have to back it with stabilizer?

It looks really nice with the flannels added in to the mix. I agree about the green.

That's why we love jeans - they are so long-wearing and even when you're done, they can still be of use. That quilt top is really looking good - great combination of colors and fabrics, as usual with you!

I give those cut off bits to Chris to use as plant ties in his garden!

My computer was a bit sluggish, and while I waited for the photo to appear for "the amount I throw away," I expected to see a mound of denim scraps. But you made the pair pretty much disappear. You're a truly frugal quilter.
The quilt is going to be wonderful, combining the denim + applique and the flannels.

Great recycling job! I love the flannel and the denim together, and I think that's a great use for your embroidery samples. I agree about the green - all those reds are just right!

I am impressed by your ability to make use of that much of the jeans. I'll have to try that sometime as your quilt looks really cool.
