A Play Day

I only ended up trying one layout with the mix of blocks. I got sidetracked by my short attention span. I repacked a few boxes of fabric because.............well, just because. One of my readers asked to see the blocks that I made for the Disappearing 9 patch. There were 4 different kinds.
and this was the result.
I have a lot of floral fabrics and one box was all pieces smaller than a quarter yard, so I cut a bunch of them into strips and made 9 patches. Here it is in all of its ugliness.
Here it is cut in half both ways
and here is the layout of 4 blocks that were all alike. It's not too bad now, not beautiful, but not bad.
I always like to have samples in several types of fabrics for the class.

I like them both! The floral has a nice play of colors and is good for someone who doesn't like things as vivid as you and I like them. LOL.

Your attention span must be ok to get so much done!!! I like the mix of pinks and purples with the green, but can't wait to see the other layouts.

I think I like that lay out best - I love the zig zag.

Hi Wanda
I just sorted through my fabrics as well, and found some "when did I buy these?" floral fat quarters (probably on sale at least 10 yr ago). So now I have an idea of what to do with them, thanks to you.

Do you start with 4 or 5-inch strips for your hidden 9 patches?

p.s. the zig zag setting brings to mind a fruit platter (kiwi, melon, blue grapes, strawberries, etc).

I just love the bright zig zag pattern.

The florals are very different in a disappearing nine patch.

You must be an excellent instructor! It would be so much fun to take a class with you. BTW, I have many of those same "ugly" florals if you need more! :))

I am a HUGE fan of the florals. I actually found a BUNCH of them last week-end when I was searching frantically for my fall colored fabrics. NOW, I have a good idea how to use them!!! LOL thank you!

What was the strip width that you used? Just curious. I have a bunch of 5 inch blocks that might work great.

I really like the layout with the 3 sets of colours but can't wait to see what other layouts you come up with.

Your zig zag quilt looks so 3D - as if you can see through it. Some in the foreground and some behind it.

I so enjoy watching you work. Every day you brighten my day with so much inspiration.

Would you believe a BLIZZARD is predicted for our area on Thursday night on into Friday for our area. With lows of 6 - 9 degrees. We are headed for Seattle tomorrow and hope to miss it all.

I'm not a fan of florals, but I love the other disappearing 9-patch layout. As for the watermelon, I think I still prefer the star layout. Mind you, if this is what you achieve when you've got distracted......

I have seen all your 9 patch postings and it is so much fun to see how the blocks changed. But do you mind telling us how big you cut the block to start with?
