backing, tablerunner, blooms............

I am showing my items in reverse order today.  Last night I worked on quilting this tablerunner and cut and sewed on the binding.  I am almost halfway done stitching the binding by hand.

Earlier in the day I worked on this back for a quilt.  I don't usually put this much work into a back but I had the center 12 blocks and they just weren't turning into anything.  I didn't have enough of the red plaid for the back of this quilt so I split it on the fold line and pieced in the 12 blocks plus 2 side panels.

The red plaid is one of the Roberta Horton fabrics from the 1990s.

Yesterday morning I noticed I had a bloom on the cactus that is from my mother-in-law's plant.  It didn't bloom last year and I didn't even notice the bud on it this year.  I look at all of my cactus plants every day hoping for more blooms.
This second shot is just because it is so pretty.

March 10th was my parents' wedding anniversary.  Today would have been their 80th anniversary.  Mother passed away 8 years ago and Dad 3 years ago so they did celebrate their 72nd anniversary.

Tablerunner.........

I finished the hand stitching on the binding of this tablerunner last night.  It is 11.5" x 33.5".
The back and binding are the same fabric.  It is made with the leftover blocks from the quilts below, both started in 2009.

This one is a remake of the one that I made in 1991 and that was published in "Strips that Sizzle" by Margaret J. Miller.  I sold the original and hoped to make another as good as it was.  I want to finish this wallanging this year and hang it in my living room or dining room.

This small quilt was made with more of the blocks.  The color is truer in this photo.  This particular star design takes more dark blocks than light ones so that is why the tablerunner is made of all light blocks, the leftovers.  This wallhanging was finished in 2013 and is for sale on my Wandaful Quilts blog.

Flannel tumblers and table runner..........

While watching 3 1/2 hours of TV last night I sewed the flannel 9" tumbler top.  I have to press it and then trim the sides and it will be ready to quilt.  I think it will be about 63" x 80" when done.  My design wall is 84" tall and the quilt top is trailing a little on the floor.  This one isn't especially pretty but it used up a lot of flannel scraps.

Yesterday morning I quilted this table runner and last night sewed on the binding and started the hand stitching.  I hope to finish it today.  I used a 12 weight yellow variegated thread to quilt it.

Table topper.........

I have 6 or 7 table toppers and table runners to finish.  I started with one of the toppers, about 16" square.  It is made with leftover double 4 patch blocks.  I stitched diagonally in both directions for the quilting.  It is laying on a table and was impossible to get a good square shot of it.  I'll take better photos when I get a bunch of them finished.

For the back I used another of those hard to use batiks.  It is a pretty batik but doesn't look so great cut up.  I hand finished the binding.

Yesterday morning I designed another flannel quilt, all 9" tumbler blocks.  I have the rows down off the design wall clipped together.  Maybe I'll sew the rows today.

Yellow and red.............

I think it is time to make another mostly yellow quilt.  I pulled a couple oranges and some golds too.  They are all batik fabrics.

I stacked them to carry to the basement.  I couldn't resist measuring how tall the pile is.  Most pieces are about 1/2 yard and a few are a full yard.  Now I need to decide on a pattern.

My project while watching TV last night was making strip pieced blocks with red and pink.  I don't use a foundation.  I just pieces strips together, press well and then trim to 6.5" square.

My plan is to use them with my 8" crazy pieced blocks from last year.  This is the first layout.

I think the second layout looks better.  I need to make a lot more blocks if this ends up being my final plan.

I bought an Amaryllis bulb on sale after Christmas for $2.72.  It had a bud when I planted it but it didn't start growing for almost 3 weeks.  I was about to give up when it started shooting up.  The photo on the package was a single petal style so I was surprised when it bloomed and it is double petals.  There is one more bloom behind it.

I save the bulbs and put them in their pots outside in the summer and fertilize them.  Then in November I bring them in to a dark cool place for about 12 weeks and then expose them to light to see if I will get any buds.  I had one last year and there is one this year.  It is about 12" tall right now and the bud is fairly small.  The pots are sitting next to each other so you can see the bud just below the bottom bloom.

First finish in March 2017

I didn't plan to finish a quilt yesterday.  Mid afternoon I decided to load this flannel tumbler quilt on the frame.  Next thing I knew I was quilting it.

I used a medium brown thread on top and bottom and it really blended in well.  In fact it blended so well I couldn't always tell where I had already quilted.  I used a large meander and Warm and Natural batting.  I decided the flannel needed a batting with scrim in it for the quilt to keep its shape with hard use.
I used one width of the darker piece of flannel on the back and a half width left over from another flannel quilt added to make the backing wide enough.  The quilt is 61" x 82.5".  The binding is one of the flannel plaids used in the the tumblers.

Food blocks...........

One of my friends brought a die for me to use yesterday morning so I did some cutting.  Then after lunch I worked on a couple blocks for Farm Girl Vintage quilt.  I made my pumpkin with strips instead of squares and made it one row taller.  Since there are some other blocks that aren't 6" or 12" I figured it wouldn't make any difference it this one is 2" taller.
The other block is Peas and Carrots.  It is probably the fastest block I have made so far for this quilt.  If you want to see some of my other blocks I have a Farm girl quilt label in the Label list on the right sidebar for all posts pertaining to this quilt.
