backing, tablerunner, blooms............

I am showing my items in reverse order today.  Last night I worked on quilting this tablerunner and cut and sewed on the binding.  I am almost halfway done stitching the binding by hand.

Earlier in the day I worked on this back for a quilt.  I don't usually put this much work into a back but I had the center 12 blocks and they just weren't turning into anything.  I didn't have enough of the red plaid for the back of this quilt so I split it on the fold line and pieced in the 12 blocks plus 2 side panels.

The red plaid is one of the Roberta Horton fabrics from the 1990s.

Yesterday morning I noticed I had a bloom on the cactus that is from my mother-in-law's plant.  It didn't bloom last year and I didn't even notice the bud on it this year.  I look at all of my cactus plants every day hoping for more blooms.
This second shot is just because it is so pretty.

March 10th was my parents' wedding anniversary.  Today would have been their 80th anniversary.  Mother passed away 8 years ago and Dad 3 years ago so they did celebrate their 72nd anniversary.

Congrats on making quick work of that table runner! And you completed a quilt back, too? Such a productive day.

The table runner is just beautiful and to think your parents were married longer than I've lived on this earth.

I would love to see that table runner as a big quilt- it is that pretty! I had an orchid open up some blooms the other day.

Good morning Wanda....Until this morning, before reading your blog, I thought we were doing pretty good, to be celebrating our 62nd. anniversary in a couple of months. Your parents were so fortunate to have lived and loved long enough to celebrate 72 years together. What a remarkable achievement. You must be very proud of them.

Looks like we're in for some cold weather for another week or so. Have to take a run to JoAnns today, since they have the Wilton chocolate on sale and I use quite a bit of it at Chrisstmas for my cookies. In addition I have a an additional 25% off my total purchase, so it's a good time to stock up and keep it in my freezer.

Beautiful back - worth the additional effort and how great to find a good home for those orphan blocks. Your cacti photos are beautiful. 72 years . . . wow, only 30 more to go for us to match their record.

Amazing that your parents were married for 72 years! Wanda, I look forward to your daily blog. You have been my quilting inspiration since we met. Looks like you are making a diligent effort to reduce you collection of fabrics. I've seen your stash!

The table runner is so pretty! I love the back, but I always hesitate having that much piecing on the back of a quilt because then with batting and the piecing on the quilt top there could be some very thick places to try and quilt through. I guess it might be easier on a long arm than a home machine.

72 years! That is wonderful. My in-laws 78th would have been on March 6th.

The table runner looks wonderful. The scrappiness is so nice.

I too love your table runner... The diamonds frame the pastel fabrics perfectly... And wow those greens, a lovely springtime table runner.

And fun to see a patchwork used for one of your backings.

Love that backing. And what a clever way to use up some blocks that just refuse to behave. I'd probably be tempted to switch that quilt every so often to show off both sides. Lovely work!
