Still cutting..............

Cutting and vacuuming were my jobs yesterday.  I have 70 more fabrics to choose, press out the fold marks and cut  for the colorwash kits.

The weather has turned warm again, 80s expected tomorrow.  I guess it is Indian Summer because we have had our first frost.

This is one of the photos I found when I was transferring files from my old computer that was dying.  It was taken in 1952.  My only cousin on my mother's side is the little guy and then me and my two brothers on our second hand bicycles.  We lived out in the country, gravel road, gravel driveway and wide open spaces.  There were only 2 farms in our mile.  The only other building in that mile was the one room school that I attended in first and second grade, a quarter mile down the road.

What state was this? It looks very FLAT. I grew up in NW NJ which was similar. I think we had uncluttered simple childhoods.

We haven't been below 48 yet, but sure looking forward to the frost, although it looks like a big weather change here later in the week...

Great photo....those bikes are ones I remember. Still warm here with cooler nights, but no frost.

when we moved to the country when I was going to start 4th grade we went to a one room school house also - only went for two years when they closed them all down and started to bus the kids to the towns. I too lived on an old country road that we walked and road bikes on and I walked over a mile to spend time with friends -- and it was all so safe back then - no calls to mom to even let her know I got there ok or was on my way home.
It looks like your colorwash packs are almost done. (I was born in 52)

What a wonderful photo! That makes my day. So glad you shared it, Wanda. Times sure have changed since then. My grandfather had a farm a few miles west of yours. When we drove out to visit I would recite the towns in order so I knew how close we were. Thanks again for sharing.

I'm sure this picture must bring back lots of memories from your childhood, when you look at it. The clothes ad bikes are all reminiscent of the times we grew up in. In 1952, I was a sophomore at Steinmetz High school in Chicago.

Your older ? brother on the right looks very tall and you all have that young, happy and innocent look about you. The closest I ever came to a farm was visiting relatives in Michigan and pictures from that time show that it was a very happy time spent with a lot of different animals. Thanks for sharing!

I don't know how you keep track of all those fabrics and which ones you have cut! Wonderful photo. Black and white really makes it more poignant.

Love the photo Wanda... It is a treasure... I had to enlarge the photo to see even more details. Your natural curly hair is so pretty. Your neck scarf so trendy in that period. And look at your rolled up pant legs to show off those cute shoes. But really I know we had to roll up up our jeans so they would not get caught in the chain.... photo memories are such fun to look at.

Love old photos. I had a bike very similar to yours and my brother had one like your brothers. Are the cut fabrics in the trays in any orders other than color? Eye candy.

Wanda, this photograph is awesome!! It really pulls memories of my childhood! In 1952, I was four years old....I grew up in the city and in the suburbs, but have many, many happy memories of farm life as both of my grandfathers were farmers....one grew tobacco and soybeans, the other grew tobacco and cotton...I loved visiting, especially during harvest time. We lived a little over two hours away, so whenever we visited during harvest, I always brought back some of the cotton for "show and tell".... I used to love going in the tobacco curing barn, and in the smokehouse where the hams were curing....such great memories!!!
Thanks so much for sharing this today!!

Your picture and story brought back long forgotten memories for me. I was 4 in 1952 so look to be a little older than that. In the 4th grade I went to a 2-room school house. In one room I had the Principle for my teacher and my mother was the teacher in the other room. Great memories...thanks!

What a beautiful photo....such an idyllic setting....a perfect place for children to roam freely. We always had used bikes too...bikes were marvelous things, they freed you up to go distances and you felt like an explorer! Thanks for sharing.

Love your photo! I bet you were jealous of your brother with the basket on his bike. Did you walk to school?

That great photo is such a family treasure. I remember riding my big fat tire bicycle on the gravel living on the farm. My grandparents lived in a house after they retired that had been a country school house and was moved into town and had beautiful wood plank floors and arched doorways between some of the rooms. I loved that house. Those country school buildings are becoming rare to find these days.
