Alternate blocks..........
I sorted scraps yesterday and cut some more pieces for this set of blocks. I have 23 blocks sewn now, approximately 8" finished. I decided to try a light batik as every other block. I laid the yardage on my table and placed the blocks on top of it. I liked the first one I tried but there wouldn't have been enough of it. This is a larger piece and one of my favorite light batiks. Even with the alternate blocks it is too small for a couch quilt. I'll go back to working on the triangle quilt today while I think about this.

why does it have to have a "consistent" alternate block? There is such a richness of batiks in the star blocks, it could comfortably absorb more variety in the side blocks. And that would give you a chance to play with those blocks merging at times into star batiks. I find lighter batiks a bit tough to come by, but your stars seem to have an abundance of workable choices.
What is the name of this light batik? It is lovely.

That is a beautiful light batik and it looks great with the blocks. Maybe mixed with other lights.....
One thing I so enjoy about this blog. Just as I get settle into enjoying how gorgeous a project is, there are a few great ideas in the comments that get me thinking about it even more. Win-win for me.
That is the perfect fabric for the alternate blocks. It is too bad you don't have enough, but sometimes a more creative solution will emerge. I can't wait to see what you come up with!

Sometimes the best solutions happen when I "make do" with fabric I have, instead of running out to buy something. Looks lovely!

I bet you'll find just the right fabric in your amazing stash! Both of the ones shown were great, does it have to be just one fabric or could you use two or three?

I have finally been able to get back to your blog after my daughter's wedding and all the preparations. These kite blocks didn't speak to me at all probably because they are a language I have never heard before but on the light batik fabric I totally get them and think it looks great. You are clever!
