Borders on........

I'm usually not a fan of dark borders on quilts but I think it was necessary on this one to pop the dark fabrics in the 16 patch and emphasize the checkerboard pattern.  I used the wrong side of the batik because the design was a little lighter on that side.  If I do some creative piecing and add some of the leftover blocks I have enough of the border fabric for the back.  It measures 65.5" x 81" right now.

I wrote a comment telling you your original layout didn't grab me, but I had faith you would do something great. You did it and wow.

I love the rich color in this quilt. Totally agree with the border. I've enjoyed watching this beauty come together this month. Perfect December project with it's happy Christmas holiday colors, too.

Totally agree. The dark border does pop the dark fabrics in the 16 patch. Good choice. Wish I could see it in person.

love the quilt. Red and purple are among my favorite colors (have to add anything jewel toned to the mix). I'm just the opposite of you. I have a really hard time with light outer borders. I always think of art work framed in rich dark woods.
