Another project..........

I only have 3 days to come up with an idea for a Christmas stocking for the newest member of the family.  The party is on Sunday.  My two friends are coming over to sew today so I will play around with some ideas while they are here.  I have a tutorial for making a Christmas stocking here.  The one I was building in the tutorial was for this little guy's dad when he joined the family party.
One of my friends stopped by yesterday with this gift for me.  We have had many discussions about brown sugar and storage and she has had good luck with this one.  There is a terra cotta ring that you soak in water that goes in there to keep the sugar soft.  This squarish shape will fit nicely on the shelf too.

Making a stocking will certainly make you feel Christmas-y!

I don't have any difficulties keeping brown sugar, and if I did, I would just make some. No brown sugar as we know it in South Africa! And white sugar is a bit coarser! If you wanted white sugar crystals as fine as ours we had to buy castor sugar. Not sure why I buy brown sugar?????

What a nice gift! It will come in handy as I know you make cookies for your quilt group meetings. I buy brown sugar in bulk bags from the Amish bulk food store so I would have to have two of these to fit it all in.

We throw in the crust from a loaf of bread when the brown sugar needs it. No one likes to eat it and it works perfectly.

Can't wait to see the stocking. Have fun sewing it!

Love the brown sugar keeper - I have seen one something like that in either the King Arthur catalog or Chef's and thought about getting it.

I'm fascinated with the brown sugar keeper. It sounds like a great idea. We seldom have a problem, but I have always used a bread crust if needed.

Have fun with the stocking. I'm sure it will be perfect.

I keep reading about the brown sugar keepers and as I have had a problem keeping brown sugar fresh I am going to try one. Where did you purchase yours?

I saw something on the internet somewhere last week - to put a marshmallow in to keep the brown sugar soft.

I use a regular lidded glass jar from walmart. I have a pottery brown bear that I soak in water for 20 minutes and then throw in to the brown sugar after I shake the excess water off. Works in the box too.

I too put a slice of bread in my brown sugar and it never gets hard. Thanks Mom for the things I learned from you.

Interesting container for brown sugar. I, too, use the traditional bit of bread to keep the brown sugar soft. It hasn't failed yet.
