Meet my daughter Vicki

If you live in the Charlotte, NC area you can meet my daughter Vicki tonight at the opening of this show at the Ciel Gallery.  She has 2 mosaic pieces juried into the show.

In 2001 when I went to visit she asked me to bring a lot of neutral color squares to do a colorwash type background for an iron gate applique.  We were working from a picture of a gate and entrance to a house.  We worked on the layout of the squares together and while I sewed the background she drew the gate on the paper backing of a fusible product which we bonded to black ultrasuede.  Then she cut it out and we fused it on.  I quilted it and started the binding on my last day there.  My son in law said I couldn't leave until the binding was done. He knew Vicki's skill was in designing and not in sewing binding.  I just did some loopy quilting in the dark areas and I think I did ditch quilting in the rest of it.

I had made a log cabin quilt in neutrals and blacks that she has on the bed and this wallhanging looks perfect with it.

I remember we took a trip to Mary Jo's Fabrics to fill in a few value ranges.  This piece was a lot of fun to make.

I signed both of our names with free motion quilting.

Vicki is also a very talented lady just like her MOM.

The wall hanging is stunning.

Will pop over to visit her web and blog.

What a great collaboration piece; your daughter is very talented too. Isn't it interesting to see the similarities between quilting and mosaic work?

Just on your post yesterday, here in the UK we pay the equivalent of $15 a yard as standard for quilting fabrics; Kaffe Fassett is usually more. Maybe that's why I find it difficult to cut into fabric I really like!

Wow Wanda! What a talented daughter you have! I followed the link and was surprised. Honestly, I wasn't expecting too much after seeing the poster as a first impression. Neither does it show the beauty of her compositions as in the galery; nor do the chosen objects and the typeface do her justice. (I saw that the galery is responsible for the poster. Outch.) Then I saw this excellent websitee and the mosaics with the fish, the trees, the waves -- and I just murmured: "AWESOME!"

I lived in Charlotte for 2 years in the early 90's. I started the Sewing Guild chapter there. It's one of my favorite places. I really miss Mary Jo'x - that was an awesome place! Your daughter, with the most perfect name, is incredibly talented!

It must have been such a treat for you to create this beautiful piece with your daughter. We get these special moments in life with our children that stay with us forever. I checked out her blog and site...she makes beautiful pieces. How fun for you to see these artistic genes passed on to the next generations. (Nice site your grandson created!) Thanks for sharing!

Your daughter does some gorgeous work. It is clear that she has a talent for designing.

The quilt/hanging is lovely. How great to blend your talents into one piece.

I am impressed with the free motion names. I have free motioned a couple of words and it is hard work!

Lovely to meet your daughter. Not only is she talented but beautiful all by herself.

Looking at her gallery, I can see each of her pieces as quilts. She surely inherited her talent from you. *S*

Lots of talent in your family. Well, you know what they say about the apple falling not far from the tree. Glad you passed your creative genes onto her. I love the colour wash with the gate!

Very impressive. I love your daughter's mosaics too and have bookmarked the page for more exploration!

I've always wanted to make a quilt with this technique. I have a photo of a gate at a graveyard in Scotland that would be excellent.

So close and yet so far away!?!

We are in NC right now, but the map shows we are about 2 1/2 hours away and it has already started.

Wish her my best! She has great pieces on her site. I would have loved to see them in person. What size are they?
