Take photos in natural light

I brought 2 design walls up from the basement and placed them in my living room opposite my large east facing picture window.  On a few sunny days in the last week I have taken new photos of a bunch of my quilts.  When I photograph in the basement, there isn't any light at the bottom of the quilt and not much on the right edge so I always had dark areas.  This is the best picture I have taken so far of the H quilt top.

I have created a new 'page' (top right on my blog page) for Colorwash quilts.  I added a few more pictures to it last night.

The orange cactus bud has opened!  I'm still hoping for another bud this spring.

The area where the periwinkle vinca grows has lots of thistles in it.  Even though I never let them get to the blooming stage, there are still lots more there every year. I think our rain is done for a couple days so maybe I can get some pulled out of there.  I also have a few dandelions to pull.  They should come out easy since it we had rain several days in a row.

So true about taking pictures in natural light. The quilts really look better! The H quilt looks fantastic! I think we now have your rain. Dreary here today!

Your pictures are really very nice. What kind of camera do you use? The H quilt looks considerably different in this light, so bright and cheery. We have had snow after 80degree weather here in Wisconsin. I had to cover some of my perennials in the yard as they are 8 inches tall already! No dandelions yet.

Really liked looking at your colourwash quilts. I've always wanted to try some, but I would have to change my fabric buying habits to be successful! The difference in your H quilt photo is impressive. The quilt has dimension now. Thanks for sharing all you do.

Thistles? I thought that was funny because I live in HillBillyville here in Nashville. We called tose things Stickerbushes! Hate those things! Your H quilt is awesome :o) Amie in Tn.

I agree - there is no substitute for natural lighting. I also like to shoot on an overcast windless day - those are always my best pictures.
Your vinca is further along than mine!

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. And your colorwash quilts - the heart being my favorite - are amazing. I love waking up every morning, coffee in hand, to your "Exhuberant Color.!" It's my morning "treat."

Oh, yes! Natural light is much better! Your 'H' quilt looks great. I am going to do some weeding this weekend too. The periwinkle is taking over in my garden too! I think the last of my Christmas cactus has bloomed.

The lighting is great in this one. i must try to pay more attention to the light. My design wall is fixed. It would be a good idea to invest in a portable one.

Thistles spread via their roots not just by blooming and going to seed. If you dig as much of the root out as you can and then do it every time you see a new thistle coming up you can be rid of them in a couple years. I know it sounds like a long time but you have to get them when they're little. The bigger they get on top of the ground means the roots are even huger and spreading all over the place.

I think your H quilt looks great. So happy and cheerful and EXUBERANT, just like you.

The H looks great, I love addition of the stars.

I can't wait to use my design wall/fence. Loads of natural light there and I can really step back to see things. For now I have to settle for the living room floor.

I love taking outdoor photos of my quilts ... even with the special daylight photo bulbs, there is a special quality to sunshine that cannot be duplicated.

Your H quilt design is on my blog today, too ~ unplanned coincidence!

Wanda, how pretty is that H quilt. Spectacular really. Can't wait to see it quilted. I'll have to try more natural light.

Thank you for reminding us that you have several different 'Galleries' to visit, that are always there with every post. Your colorwash gallery in particular is amazing. Your expertise with colorwash designs, is truly a gift.

I enjoy seeing detail and enlarge your photo's most days that I visit your blog. Like today's 'H' quilt top, with natural light and enlarging, really shows it off.

The beauty of your orange catus blossom is just plain elegant.

Wow, how true about the natural light. It's not often I can get good enough light here for good photos. We don't get a lot of sun here in WA, and we also have a lot of trees on the south and west that block the sun. I need to plan a big photo shoot on sunny days! Your H quilt looks great! I love the stars in it!

Love the photos of your flowers and wildlife. I too have too many weeds to deal with. I think they fall from the sky with the rain!
