This isn't a typical baby quilt design, but because this quilt is only 29.5" x 37", the size makes it appropriate. It was started in a workshop in 1991 when we were to design several blocks, choose one, and repeat the block for an original design. I used one of the very earliest packages of Cherrywood hand dyed fabric by Dawn Hall, the originator of the Cherrywood dyeing technique. She was the niece of my employer at a quilt shop. The other fabrics were from my stash.
I still had enough of the white, gray, beige print in the quilt for the backing. I guess I knew I would finish this one some day and might need it. I decided on a gray print for the binding rather than emphasize any color from the quilt.
I'm basting one more baby quilt that I hope to finish this month.

Congrats on your designed finish. It reminds me of mountains and sky. Great idea to use the binding fabric the same as the border. I've done that with a few quilts recently.
Your quilt reminded me of colorful mountains perfectly reflected on a very still lake. I really like the slightly darker binding you used, perfect to set off the edge but not distracting from the design. ♥️
The blocks are very intriguing. After 35 years it's time to put them out in the world!
Lovely finish on this beautiful design, Wanda;))) I see haze-y mountains in some of those blocks...really striking pattern...
36 here and finally our road is all plowed out.
I will be ironing again today; the 1st dbl row long seam before cutting for inserts...This is quite the adventure for me--even if it doesn't come out to my liking, it is a wonderful learning experience and after all, the JR was just gathering dust on my shelf...;))) Hugs Julierose
Such an interesting baby quilt! That was smart to save the fabric for the border and backing. The soft gray binding is perfect.
that is a very interesting design! thanks for letting us see the whole thing
What a fascinating concept! I'd love to explore this idea; who led the workshop, and is that instructor still around?
