Finished!...............

I didn't want to deal with keeping pink checks or plaid straight for binding so I used the gray one that had enough yardage.  This flannel baby quilt is 32" x 40".

This little quilt has Hobbs 80/20 batting in it.  I used white thread to quilt it on my Pfaff 7570.

This pile of mail that I have received in 9 days is
19 solicitations for money.  There is even 2 from each of 2 organizations, like I didn't react soon enough so I need a 'reminder'.  Obviously some charity sold my address to some data base that other groups can access.  I have never even heard of half of these organizations.  I feel obligated to open them and pull out magnets, special "coins", and any other object that shouldn't go into paper recycling.  I'm sure some of you are experiencing this same dilemma.

Not only is Stevens still getting mail, every so often (maybe just once a year now) my dad (who never lived at this address) gets a solicitation. Apparently the notepads and stuff get a good enough response for the charities to keep doing it. (It would be interesting to see a documentary/expose on the fundraising arm of St. Jude's. They advertise on TV, too....)

Lovely finish on the pink/gray quilt, Wanda;)))
So far, mail to my Dad who passed years ago has finally stopped coming to us...It was always kind of a shock seeing his name on the address ...but time marches on...
Snowing to "beat the band" here this morning and just 32 degrees...
We are slated to get some 6" --we haven't seen so much snow in years...this will be the 2nd {what we call} big storm!! It's a wet snow falling like rain....good day for some stitching...
hugs, Julierose

It's not the charity that sells our names, it's the marketing companies that the charities use. DH sent a contribution to a veteran's charity, now is getting requests from many veteran's charities. As bad is when you do send a contribution, then get requests from that same charity every month.

When Dad passed away, it worked to write "deceased - please remove from the mailing list" on any requests that had postage-paid envelopes. We tossed so many calendars, pens, notepads, trinkets...some to trash, some to thrift. Thanks to Komen (no postage paid envelope) I have address labels to last several years now. After nearly 8 years, they've finally slowed down to sending solicitations about once a year.

Between not wanting on mailing lists, and how little of the money goes to many charity programs, I no longer donate through mail requests.

On to happier things! The quilt is adorable, soft, cuddly, that will be a happy baby & parents that get it.

Living in St. Jude's hometown, ALSAC (the fundraising organization) is in the business of supporting the hospital as the fees charged (if at all) are nominal and not enough to fund the enormous facility and their vast outreaches/research into childhood disease. Sorry - any solicitation by them is 100% legit and the do use every available route to look for donations.

I donate only via online directly to an organization but even that doesn't stop the mailed ones from arriving. The worst one perhaps was having my name (spelled wrong) sold by Walgreens Photo many, many years ago - I'm still getting stuff addressed to "July" Last Name. There are companies online to help reduce junk mail and it does help but doesn't stop all of it.

I get a lot of the please donate before Xmas - right now I am getting ton of clothing catalogs that I have never ordered from and don't plan to, I'm sure plant catalogs will be mixed in soon and those I look at and then toss.

First, that's an adorable baby quilt and I'm sure some new parents will welcome it. I don't get the whole gray as a nursery color, but it seems to be very popular. On the charity solicitation front, there are places you can go to to get your name off marketing lists (magazines are just as bad as charities), but the one I tried immediately asked for my Social security number, so I nixed that one right away. You can sometimes get off mailing lists by visiting their websites where you can request to be removed from their lists. I did this with both St. Jude's and whatever veteran's group kept sending me pens, socks and other unneeded merchandise.
My late husband used to fill out forms with various alternate spelling of his name, just to see what came back. One name he used was Marco D'Evanzo, which still shows up in the mailbox 4 years after he died.

The baby quilt will be so snuggly, such a sweet finish. Like July ;-) Julie, I can track the trail of solicitations for Chanda, vs Cherie. , too, feel obliged to sort out the recycling from the trash……right at the bins before they even come in the house.

Pink and gray is beautiful combination especially for a baby. It has such a soft cozy loving appearance to wrap baby in.

Solicitations ! 😡. They are never ending and this year it seems worse than others for some reason. And those t.v. Charity Commercials should keep those blankets and shirts and use that money to put back into their society they need money for.

This sweet flannel quilt is sure to be one that will soon be out the door to warm some little somebody!
I cut our address off of those unwanted letters asking for money and recycle one and all. I do empty them of magnets, address labels, and such first, of course. A new irritation is the MANY phone calls we receive wanting to buy the house next door where our son lives. Outrageous!

Hugs!

Personally I really enjoy getting all that "crap". I keep any trinkets etc for my wee great granddaughter or for myself as I have other hobbies where they are used. What does bother me is the emails that come when I haven't subscribed. Also I get out of the house to go pick up the mail. Except for that and walking the dog sometimes, with all our snow, life is like a bear hibernating. Even if there's a lot of junk mail, it's easy enuf to toss in the recycling.

(Perhaps consider retaking the photo of envelopes with you address covered up.) I still get mail with my middle initial of "G". I used that spelling of my name on one magazine subscription more than 40 years ago. And - some years back, we donated $100 as a memorial after a loved one died. The organization has since used up all of that $100 for postage to send us constant requests for more donations. What a waste.

I still get mail addressed to my husband who's been gone over 9 years !

That is the sweetest quilt for a baby girl! Given the cost of printing and postage, I'm surprised charities still do these random mass mailings. It's also irritating that they sell our information.

The new baby quilt is very soft looking and lovely. Awhile back, I bought a "return to sender" stamper. I return anything from a strange organization.

The quilt turned out so pretty! To get your name off a list, this is what I did. If there is a no postage return envelope inside, I take a black sharpie and write "take me off your mailing list, calling list or whatever list you have!" Then I stuff the envelope with as much paper as I can like grocery store ads, just any other junk mail. I stuff that so full I have to tape it shut. The organization has to pay more to get the envelope back because it weighs more. Then when they open it, it is nothing but junk mail! I get very little junk mail anymore.

The pinks and greys look fantastic! I totally get the need to pull out the fun stuff from the junk mail asking for money. I'm like Patty... if there is a return address, postage-paid envelope inside, I stuff it with other junk and send it back to them. I also do the Sharpie but write "take me off the list."
