Another thing I want to do this year is make a test block for all of my dies and hopefully one a week. I started yesterday with this Pine Burr die. I remember a friend of mine made a quilt with this pattern back in the late 1990s and I liked the quilt.
I decided to use some small chunks of Cherrywood fabric for this one. I didn't have the gold fabric lined up quite right for the cut so it is short on 2 of the outside edges. I think I may be able to trim it into a square in spite of that mis-cut and I could make a mug rug with it. Mainly I want to see if the die is accurate and how long it takes to make a block. This will help me decide how large of a project I would want to make with the die. This one is a 10" finished block. I might test all 10" blocks first and they could be used in a sampler type quilt if I stick with the same kind of fabric.
We're in the midst of a heat wave....it will get up to 44 today and in the 50s by Thursday. No icy pavement on my walk into the PT building. They did mention snow later in the week but rain to follow it.

I just ordered the Pine Burr die! It was on clearance and I added it to my cart along with the Studio die I bought during their 40% off sale. Making a sample block from all your dies sounds like an excellent idea. I think I’ll get a silver Sharpie and mark lines on my dies as I’ve seen others do to help align the fabric to ensure the blades are covered as I’ve had a mis-cut recently as well.
That’s a nice block! I like your idea of making sample blocks as I know I have bought dies that I’ve never used.
Nice block with those lovely cherrywood fabrics...good idea to make test blocks with all of your dies; I have quite a few that I haven't even opened as yet!!:(((
33 here under milky skies this morning. Will be taking it easy as it seems i have a head cold;(...
Making those test blocks is a good idea. I think we expect to get up into the 80s today. To this point we have had a very mild winter. It will be interesting to see what the next two months bring.
There is a lot of pieces in that block! A die for the accuracy would be critical in order to have this block come out correctly. I am looking forward to a bit of warmer weather. I need to get out in the garage and make a frame for a sampler I made for my sister for Xmas. Yes, I am behind, but so is she so it's all good! LOL!! I would like to get her Xmas present to her in the next week or so.
What an interesting block! Love the fabrics you chose and your idea to make other 10" blocks with different fabrics just to test each 10" die.
If memory serves, the Lewis and Clark block has 64 pieces in it. I made four blocks for a bee challenge in 2000. Mercy!
Our high temperatures will be in the 60s*F today and for the rest of the week. Saturday we'll likely have rain. Our area in Virginia often has short runs of warmer days in January.
Hugs!

Pine Burr is quite the precise block but ~ my oh my it is a beauty ~ I love the fabric combination on this one so much. Looking forward to all your samples ahead.
a nice warm day for you - here too! I had just mentioned on my blog today I that I need need to go through my accuquilt dies and see what to use
