Alternate block auditions.................

The blocks I showed yesterday could be used with alternate blocks of one fabric, so I was searching through my stash yesterday.  Fabric #1:  This is a cute little kid print and I have enough to use on the back too.

Fabric #2:  This animal fabric would work.  I have just one yard of it so I would have to look for a different backing.

Fabric #3: I realized as I got to this fabric that I should turn the bright blocks one turn so the narrow edge is going across the quilt and the longer edge is going down the length of the quilt.  I have just one yard of this fabric too.

Fabric #4:  Since the size of this quilt would be suitable for a baby, I'm not sure this print would be.  The colors in the birds aren't quite as bright as the alternate block colors.  I decided that was enough to think on for the rest of the day.

Last night I looked through the Kaffe orphan block box, hoping to find some small blocks to use in borders on the medallion quilt.  These 3 were the smallest in the box and the 4 patches could easily be trimmed down to a smaller size.

Today I think I will be doing a load of laundry so maybe I can get some cutting done while in the basement today.  I found a quit top while in the basement that I want to enlarge.  It was  finished top a couple years ago but I have been thinking about adding to it.  I'll take it's photo today.

I also hope to baste the pink and gray flannel baby quilt today.

You have some good choices for the alternate blocks and I’m liking the third fabric as it is light, airy and lets the blocks shine. I think you are a magician, pulling fabric, blocks, parts and pieces seemingly out of the air, lol.

All of the audition blocks are pretty #1 would be cute if its for a baby, #2 & #3 make it hard to decide lol, I liv the bird print but thinking it may look too busy but that's not to say it wouldn't look good, sometimes I think deciding the finish takes longer than deciding the beginning 😂

Four lovely alternate block possibilities, Wanda--I like No 3 a lot but they all work. KF colors are so rich looking...you've found a lot of lovely "starts" in your boxes;)))
37 here and overcast--supposedly due for some rain, but none so far. Helga needs to go in for a tune up as she began chattering away a few days ago...I cleaned her bobbin area and put in a new needle and re-threaded, but she still gave me grief!! I will take her in this coming week--the repair shop I always use is quite a distance away so DH and I will make a day of it and have a lunch out...
Hugs, Julierose

I like #1 because the contrast between the vibrant colors in the pieced blocks and the soft print of the solid blocks creates a visual contrast that are good for babies. These fabric choices will also be good as the child grows - I Spy, count the blocks, etc.

From a distance I actually like the birds (but then I can sit and watch our bird feeder for quite a while and be totally entertained). Second choice would be the jungle animals (seek and find possibilities). Third choice would be the first fabric (kid print). Have fun deciding which one YOU like best.

I like fabric 3 the most and fabric 1 second best. What a great idea to use an alternate fabric with this colorful blocks!
Looking forward to seeing the quilt top you plan to enlarge. What fun!
We've had rain since about 2am and it may continue until mid-afternoon.

Hugs!

Fabric no. 2 is my choice, no. 4 second choice…. very interesting ~ I think you can tell the personalities of your followers from what pleases them. 😏 we all look at art in our own way.

I also vote for the first!

Somehow I missed yesterday's post. I like the fabric in the first and 3 pictures. I think the other two compete with the blocks.

Your alternate block fabrics are wonderful. I have several larger pieces of lovely fabric that I haven’t worked into a quilt. Maybe a 16-patch could be inspired by one of them. It’s such a great quilt! I love the rectangle version! -Roxanne

I don't have a blog so I'll appear as anonymous but I have followed you for years and even took one of your colorwash classes a few years ago. Anyway, I like #3 ... enough white background to provide some contrast yet the colors are just as juicy as in the primary blocks. And with a little bit of black & white in the secondary block, you could then finish off the quilt with black & white binding. You could use the first alternating fabric as the backing, unless you find something else in that "wanda-ful" stash of yours. :-)

For a baby, I like the #1 fabric best, to give the brain a place to rest, while figuring out the pieced block pattern.
For an adult, I'd choose #2.
