On the left side is one row of 4.5" squares and a little patch of 3" squares, the components of the pieced border. I need to move all of the blocks to the left to have room for both the left and right borders on the design wall. I ended up grocery shopping and doing laundry instead of continuing to work on this.
The tree across the street was glowing with the sun from the south beating down on it, but no matter how many photos I took at different times, I really couldn't capture the sparkle that I could see. I don't remember this tree turning all gold before. Usually it had more red all the way to dropping its leaves. This might have to do with 3 dry summers in a row.
The Sedum blooms are not pretty this year. They suffered without enough rain and obviously I didn't keep up with watering them.

Sedum, in my experience, may not look great without water, but they never seem to die out. Our family calls them either Can’t Kill or Never Die plants, lol. The tree leaves look lovely in the photos so I can only imagine how great it looks in person. It looks to be a very old tree.
Borders that are two squares will add some geometric interest to the nine-patch and large square center. The trees are holding onto their leaves this season. I'd have thought they'd shed early because of the drought.
If we only had someone else to take care of the grocery shopping and laundry we would have a lot more time for sewing! That tree is huge and I can imagine it is just glowing! It rained all last night so this morning the streets were covered with leaves. I have a feeling everything is going to look bare in the daytime now.
It's a lot of work moving all the blocks on your wall, that's for sure--this really is such a pretty quilt, Wanda...;))))
52 here with rain and lots of falling leaves fluttering down...
Everything is very golden and yellow here--hardly any reds....
Hugs, Julierose
The borders on your quilt are looking good and I agree the smaller squares play nicely with the 9 Patches!
We had rain for most of yesterday and last night, too. Maybe we'll see the sun today?
Hugs!
Gorgeous tree! Trees on our Plateau have been especially beautiful this year, too.
I love that tree - colors are changing here finally it took awhile and I actually have a couple bare trees where the dried up not so pretty trees had their leafs blow off in the last storm
That tree is spectacular! Good thing you don't have to rake the leaves.
Interesting to use size changes to mark the border. Sewing pairs helps move decisions along, doesn’t it. The last trees here have that same bright gold. So glorious. I miss this brilliant fall color in Houston.
