Layout 2....................

I took out the square that was too light in this purple Rosy quilt and cut another of the second lightest fabric.  I decided to try them evenly placed down the center.  Then I cut 2 more squares of "dream" fabric and placed them evenly around the center.  I usually use a random layout but I was having a hard time coming up with anything I liked.  I'll let this one simmer for a day or two.

Last night I counted the squares that will make up the 2 borders.  I only need 3 more of the 4.5" finished squares.  If I do a double 3" border I need 58 more.

There are some leftovers from the strip piecing I did for the 9 patches.  I can cut 2 segments from each of these strips.  That would give me 28 more squares.

I was checking the plants on my porch at dusk and noticed the pretty colors looking south from  my house.  Their burning bush turns red before my compact burning bushes do.

The tree across the street is almost all turned color too.  They were pretty at dusk and are much more vivid in full daylight.

We were expecting a hard freeze by this morning so I spent over an hour yesterday late in the afternoon harvesting the remaining green tomatoes.  I usually cover the plants for the first frost and freeze but with my back problems I decided to just call it quits for the year a couple weeks early.   I picked about 2 dozen tomatoes that had started turning color the night before.  Most of the green ones eventually turn red in my garage.  Last year I ate my last home grown tomato on December 3rd.

I went back to see the square that didn't hit the right note -- your substituion is better. Lovely fall colors now!

I am liking the new layout. I have noticed that it doesn't get light until almost 8 am. I guess that will all change when they change the time and dealing with those changes.

Such pretty trees. And I agree that letting the layout simmer is a good idea. I find many of KF's purples challenging to work with in a quilt like Rosy.

What a good idea to let the Rosy quilt simmer on the back burner for further consideration. It's so pretty!
What a glorious maple is across the street from your home. Lucky you!!
It was 37*F here last night and the forecast for tonight is 36*F. Brrrr!

Hugs!

Wow, homegrown tomatoes on Dec 3rd is quite amazing. Do they taste about the same as the rest of the harvest? We have lots of trees on our property but none are maples or any other tree that get beautiful fall colors. I might need to see about planting a maple or two but there are several in the neighborhood that are beautiful now.

I like this 2nd layout, Wanda ;)))) The two light lavender and white are interesting...but I do like all the darker squares among the 9 patches a lot.
39 here this morning early on and now up to 55 already at
10 a.m.
Dealing with super sore shoulders and hands today--ole Mr. Arthur-itis has come for a bit...hoping to loosen up during the day...so, no sewing today. Will get on with my reading...
Hugs, Julierose

We all need to pause for a while on a project when we just aren’t happy with it. I know you will come up with a layout you love, when you get back to it .
AHhhhh ~ Autumn my favorite season nothing better than to see those beautiful colorful leaves on the trees.

we have been no where near freezing - I have one loan tomato still on a plant but it has barely grown we will be in the 40 's at night in a couple more days I think. We barely got any rain today but it looked like it would all day but just got some sprinkles. I'm glad I got my plants in last week though easier to do when it is a little warmer.
