There is a table in my main floor studio that I have been slowly cleaning off (we're talking piles here) and when I say slowly, it is like 2 items a day. One of the items yesterday was a little 4" x 4" bag of small batik pieces.
The 7" ruler gives you an idea how small the pieces were. They were all end pieces when I was cutting some project a few years ago and I couldn't throw them in the trash.
I decided to piece them into strips, 4 of which would make a little mug rug. I haven't pressed anything here and they are overlapped by about a half inch.
After I sewed those, I could see there were enough to sew 4 more strips of them. And guess what, there are still enough to make 4 more strips but I didn't do that yet. I need to press these and trim them into straight strips before I can assemble them into mug rug tops.
That was fun but now I needed to get back on track and cut the triangles and get this baby quilt top sewn together. I will need to press the center part before I can sew on the 4 corner triangles. I ended up using the same fabric in all 4 corners, and 4 fabrics for the 8 setting triangles.

I think you took a fun break :). I love those impromptu sewing breaks. The pinwheel setting triangles look great and I would have done all four corners the same as well, otherwise you end up with leftover triangles :(
I save small pieces of batiks, too. Good save!
Derailed - oh what a terrific word to describe what the squirrels do to me here! Your little strip sets are wonderful and will definitely make great mug rugs. Your B&W decisions are spot on for the baby quilt.
these little detours of yours yield such cute items, Wanda;))) What a fun mug rug you've made...
55 here early on when we got up to watch the Formula one race and now at 10:30 it has risen all the way to 76!! A few hotter days are headed our way I guess...and here, I thought Summer was over...hugs, Julierose
I ALWAYS get sidetracked. That's why I have so many UFOs!!!!
What fun and who wouldn't love a gloriously colorful mug rug? Besides, being sidetracked refreshes your creativity.
I love that you used the same black on white fabric in the corners of the baby quilt as that gives subtle structure to the happy quilt!
We had early morning fog and 48*F with the afternoon high expected to be 80*F. Rain Wednesday? Maybe.
Hugs!
I love your post title, only in my case a better word would probably be "deranged." I like the triangle fabric arrangement you've chosen for the baby quilt.
Your ‘Sidetracked Day’ made for a fun post today Wanda. Nothing derailed about it. You accomplished clearing off some piles on your table with several festive mug rugs. Plus cutting up the finishing triangles for baby quilt ~ I’d call that a good progressive day myself.
the baby quilt is looking good with the white/black added - that is a lot of little colorful pieces.
I like the mix of the b&w prints.
You are so good at using your scraps! I always have great ideas and plans but seem to drop my interest half way through.
