Blooming........

No sewing yesterday.  It was fun to be with my art quilters group again.  I decided I had better get photos of the Weigela bushes blooming now.  I love the shade of pink on this bush.

The wind was blowing and it was starting to sprinkle so some of the blossoms are out of focus.

They aren't a nicely shaped bush and you really have to keep them trimmed back every couple years or the branches are a tangled mess.

Here again the wind was blowing so it isn't totally in focus but you can see the color.  They are almost white with just a tinge of pink.

I trimmed this one way back a couple years ago hoping it would have a better shape when it grew back, but no, it is not great.

The lily of the valley is starting to bloom.  There should be enough to pick a small bouquet now.

Definitely spring time, that Wiegela is beautiful, we had a variegated on some years ago, and I also have Lily of the Valley, perfume so delicate and a very pretty flower.

Such gorgeous colors on the flowers. I can see why you keep the bushes even if they get ungainly.

I'm not familiar with Wiegala, I'll see if they have any at the garden center next time. The trumpet shape of those flowers makes me wonder if they attract hummingbirds. I like to watch branches like that bobbing in a breeze, or going up and down when bees or birds land on them.

My lily of the valley are also getting ready to bloom. They are growing wild so I think I will have to dig some of them up and transplant them.

Is the Weigala a member of the azalea family? It is so pretty.

Fun trip through your garden ~ and to see how we compare to what is blossoming in our area.

I am envious of the plants you can grow in the Chicago area that burn up in north Texas. I've wanted a weiglea bush ever since I first saw one. A friend does have one I saw at her home a couple of years ago--I must remember to ask her how it is surviving. And I love their rather unwieldy look--that shape draws me to them! And oh how I would love to have lily of the valley. So sweet. I love your photos and will be looking forward to one of a bouquet!

Your Weigela are beautiful. Any hints you could give on pruning or trimming would be appreciated. There are 2 beautiful Weigela here at the new property, and I certainly don't want to do anything to harm them.
