Design demo

One of the art quilters asked yesterday how I designed the piece on the right below and another that I have shown previously.

I brought my huge pile of strip piecing to the design area and proceeded to show her how I work.  I make all of the strip piecing while I am watching TV with no purpose in mind.  I had pieced the green, blue, and brown groups several years ago when I was going to try to do a forest type design (scroll to second photo).  I am not going to sew this layout but someday I will probably do another piece, larger than my first one.
This is the rest of the pieces that I have already made.  I will continue for a few more months and then the pile will be large enough to work out of.

You really get into trying out and playing with fabric! That's the only way to really do it, ha?

You inspire me to sew some strips together. I love the randomness of the design. You find patterns in the design even when you didn't plan on any.

I love seeing how you work and put the scraps together. I am sure they enjoyed it too.

Oh, YES!

Your pieced strip sets are wonderful ...

I LOVE the idea of stashing the segments as you make them ...

You are such a gift to all of us!

You actually sew on the machine in front of the TV? Obviously no one else is trying to watch/hear at the same time!!!
What a great idea and these are oh so pretty. The framed piece is beautiful.

A step into Wanda's mind! Thanks for the tour! Most of us could never do what you do, Wanda, without making a right mess of it. You still have an intuitive color genius that randomness cannot explain.
(I have heard some people put their pieces into a paper bag as a jumble, and then piece whatever comes out... You aren't doing your thing that randomly.)

makes me want to take a strip of every one of the hundreds of fabrics I have plus the HUGE pile of hand dyes I did in the 90's and put these together! Love love love! I just "found" 10 BIG bins of dyed and marbled fabric when I cleaned out the attic........washed them all and they are in a pile almost 5 feet TALL!!!! Laying flat.....that tells you how much! I enjoy your blog so much! Thank you.

I love seeing how you work on designs and ideas. Those colours are all so wonderful that I can't wait to see what they become in time.

Hi Wanda,

I finally got caught up in reading your blog. I had to start on March 14th and work my way through. Busy at work no time to take a break and read you blog lately. I only read it at work because I don't have a computer at home.
You are so inspiring and everything you have been working on the past month has turned out beautifully!
Thanks for sharing your creativity with us.
Happy quilting!

As soon as I finish the projects I am working on I plan on attacking my stash. You give me great inspiration to hurry and finish what I am working on so I can work on the scraps. I love your blog.

Now when is our weather going to get better?
