Pillowcase day

Yesterday was sewing circle at church so I spent the morning washing, pressing, and cutting fabric for our pillowcase project.

Here are 14 finished pillowcases.  We have another 10 at different stages of construction.  We will meet again in 2 weeks to finish them and a few more for our donation to a domestic abuse shelter.

Here are 9 of the little log cabin blocks.  They are 6.5" blocks.

Here are the other 8 blocks.  They are 7" square.  I have a couple more that would be best cut at 7.5" so that the outside strips would be at least 1/4" wide.  I think I will put these away until I have some more scraps of the right size to work with.

Here is the group of too small to sew scraps.  How can I throw away these little jewels?  I bagged them and put them in the container with the rest of the scraps.  I just know there will be a use for them some day.

Never to small. But yes I know it can be very small. The blocks are very interesting. I have containers of small pieces also. So this is a good inspiration to try some of your piecing technics. Have to stay in today with the storms going through. Chris

Pillowcases just have to be some of the easiest things to make, yet bring so much comfort to many. Love the log cabin blocks. Those scraps are definitely tiny!! Can't wait to see what you will do with them.

Absolutely love your little log cabin blocks! I have a container full of tiny squares, just like you do. And I can't throw them away either.

Wanda you do so much, I get tired! (Or maybe I am just tired ;)) I heard somewhere that you can use the little pieces to make a scarf (you sew them over some sort of backing web stuff?) Your log cabin blocks are great!

Monday's post: Your photo's of the maple trees are gorgeous.

I agree, pillow cases are easy to make but they make a HUGE impact on those in need at the shelter.

Those log cabin blocks are full of brilliant drama. Don't put it away for too long.

I can't believe you are not stitching on those pieces "too small to sew" right now. You are the only one I know that can stitch on a quarter inch piece and make it look great. ☺

Suggestions for your tiny pieces:

1) Sew them together randomly until you get a 'block' big enough to trim.

2) Make a "Ticker Tape Quilt" (TUTORIAL HERE: http://sewmamasew.com/blog2/?p=2311 )

Don't be scared by the size ... you can always follow the example, and make doll quilts to give to Toys For Tots to go w/ all of the lovely dollies that they'll receive for Christmas. :D
