Sorting into piles

To make the quilts I have started in the last 2 posts, I just have to divide my fabric into 2 groups, lighter and darker.  As I cut the triangles I lay them on the table staggered so I can see all of the choices.

I have made the pattern in yesterday's quilt many times before.  Someone without an email address yesterday asked what pattern I am using.  It is simply a layout that can be used with log cabin blocks or any other half dark/half light block.  There isn't a pattern anywhere.  This is how most of my quilts get started, a few pieces up on the design wall until I get a feel for what I am doing.  Here is one of the other quilts I made using this layout.

Instead of continuing the design out into a square I used large triangles to fill in the corners so it is similar to an Amish quilt design.

I have switched to the new post editor for the blog, and boy is there a learning curve.  I can't figure out how to make the text start from the left instead of the center.  Clicking on the align left icon didn't work after I added the second picture.  I can see there are some new useful things here but it will take me awhile to figure this all out.  It is like starting all over again with a blog.  I can't see spellcheck up there either.  Now I will really have to proofread each entry carefully.

With this new editor we can add up to 10 pages to be listed under the word "home" at the top right of my page.  I will be grouping pictures of quilts made from similar methods onto each of the pages.  All of these quilts have been published before but you had to go back through a zillion blog pages to find them.  I will try to add a new page every few days.  You can just click on the title of the page and get to it and return to the main page by clicking on Home.

I like the topic you have chosen for the first page of quilts. (Nice reference for the "Be Wonky" class you have coming up soon at the quilt shop.) Several of them I did not remember seeing before - you are right that scrolling through ALLLLLLLLLL of the pages of your blog would have made it difficult to find each of them. Thanks for doing the extra work; it is a cool addition and alternative to the "labels" list for seeing your work.

Your beautiful fabric stash never ceases to amaze me. I think you could take the ugliest quilt pattern ever designed (if there IS an ugly one) and make it look wonderful with the fabrics you choose to use!!!

Looking forward to seeing these come to life. I had trouble learning to use the new post editor too, but think I have it figured out now. Didn't know about the Home page though. Is that on the post editor page?

I work a lot like you - I have a general idea of what I want to do and then just let it flow.

You amaze me, being able to put something up on a design wall and come out with a quilt. I have to have a pattern. I enjoy coming to your site to see what you are up to. It is an inspiration.

The quilts on your new home page are beautiful. So inspirational for one who loves color. I can't wait to see what the triangles become.
I am not looking forward to tangling with the new post editer.

Amazing what value can do to tame such a variety of pattern. BTW, if you find the spell check, let us know. I've been looking for it also....

Wanda, I want to point your readers to today's blog by Melody Johnson:

http://fibermania.blogspot.com/

where they will find an account of how you got Melody started quilting back in the 1980's.

It is wonderful/wandaful reading!
(Thanks, Melody!)

The triangles look like fun to play with!!
Working with the new post editor does take some getting used to. To stop the text from being centred after inserting your photo, hit enter a couple of times after inserting your photo and then click on the align left icon -- that has been working for me. I'm really surprised they didn't put spell check in!!

I had such a time with the new blogger editor that I went back to the old one. I figure I will let them get the bugs out and maybe try it again.

Your photo's tell a story as much as your dialog. The light and dark triangles show us the beautiful values. The new piece is stunning, fabrics, color, plus great design.

You are amazing designer and I know you will figure out the new set up for your blog.

You should do a group of the Kaffe log cabins... the way you showed all the different layouts possible in the MOST BEAUTIFUL FABRIC ON EARTH... was something I refer my friends to, if you'll pardon my ending the sentence in a preposition.

Dear Wanda,
I just wanted to let you know how touched I was by Melody Johnson's post about you today (2/16/10): http://fibermania.blogspot.com/ Like many others, your blog and Melody's are the ones I especially look forward to reading every day. It's fun to know of the long connection between you. And as a teacher myself (not of quilting), I know how much it means to hear from a long-ago student of one's impact. May you bask in the tribute of this student who has also gone on to produce such great work!

Wanda - Here's the comment I wrote after reading Melody's entry about how you two met and the special mentoring relationship that developed: I didn't realize your paths were so intertwined. I read both your and Wanda's blogs daily (along with Frieda's) and just love and enjoy them both so much! I learn so much from both of you and appreciate your generosity and creativity. Much love to you both.

Hi Wanda,
Lots of kudos going around for you today!
First, the nice post from Melody about your influence on her.
Second, lots of people noticed the post and made great comments.
And third, kudos to you for the new blog layout with the topic pages. I had not seen some of the quilts from uneven strips, and nice to review the ones I had.
You are our Bright Spot.

The green framed quilt is simply adorable. Stunning. Among the best I ever saw.

I like the new layout and the pages section is great. I must figure that out for my own blog when I have time.
I've been wanting to add some pictures of my past quilts.
As usual I love your colors! All of the uneven stripped quilts appeal to me. Your stash is so bright. I'm not inspired to use mine, but someone on a blog once said that you could use all the ho-hum fabrics by throwing in a few zingers here and there. Maybe that will work.
