These are a couple of the layouts in the whole quilt, the one above the center and this one below what the diagonal lines will look like in the barnraising.
I thought each block was rather ugly when I got them done, but once I saw them on the computer screen I didn't think they looked so bad.
I have a bunch more partial blocks made too but now I need to cut some more pieces before I can continue.

The flower in the middle is a good idea! The colors are gorgeous.
I think these blocks are gorgeous! I'm sure either layout is going to be fabulous!!
Wanda the strips just look fabulous made into your log cabin. I love that block for a fast quilt especially when they are so large.
The second layout is my favorite.
Sometimes a single block (or even a small set) lets you look at it to close. Then when the entire quilt is done, you get the surprise of "wow, it really is pretty"

Do you cut your log cabin strips on the lengthwise grain? I have wondered whether it's really worth that or not.

Love them....this is a good example of using larger prints for smaller cuts. Lots of people don't think it can be done.

I love the looks too. It is amazing how well those blocks made up when you put them all together.

I must admit I am not comfortable using so many prints but you make it look so easy. That quilt will be fantastic! Log cabins do go together fast.

I don't agree with your ugly-as-singles assessment, but I do agree that they look even better in arrangement. But that's what log cabin is all about.

I know what you mean about feeling a block is "ugly" when it's so close to your face, then from afar it looks great. A friend and I were doing 5.5-inch log cabins, fussing over which fabrics to use in which blocks, and when our 45-inch top was done we couldn't believe we fussed over the fabrics. Our tops looked almost identical when looked at as a whole.
