Inspiration...........

I found time to sit down and read most of this new hard cover Kaffe Fassett book.  Does anyone call hard cover editions coffee table books any more?  Kaffe discusses many types of color groups with beautiful still life arrangements illustrating them.  There are also quilts (and directions to make them) and needlepoint designs in  this book.

One of my favorites is his Seed Packet quilt.  It is huge fussy cut flowers from his fabrics as well as other brands.  It sounds like he is a collector of beautiful floral fabrics too.  I recognized a few of the older fabrics.  I love that red headboard too.

There are 2 sizes of squares so I will have to look for 2 sizes of flowers as I go through my fabrics.

This book from C&T Publishing came 2 days ago.  I think Cindy Grisdela did a great job of explaining the elements and principals of design.  I don't have any formal art training and I have read explanations before but the way Cindy explains them finally makes some sense to me.  I'm usually just depending on what is visually pleasing to me.  I have a drawer full of improv pieces and parts already made that I can play with to try out some of her ideas.

I listed one group of colorwash kits for sale on my Wandaful blog (link to it above the title of today's post and link also on my right sidebar above "My current favorite").  I may have some other kits to list but I'm waiting to hear back from some buyers first.

Love the big blooms for seed packets quilt! That is a great one.

I saw the Kaffe flower quilt on Pinterest last week, not knowing it was from his book. I tried to find out more about it but there wasn't much information. His books are always eye candy to me. I bought a huge book of his about needlepoint and I don't do needlepoint at all.

My copy of Cindy's book is being impatiently waited for (has been on pre-order for eons). I've admired her work for a long time.

I agree about that red headboard - and if anyone can create a gorgeous Seed Packet quilt, it will be you!

we have some coffee table books - I still call nice or overlarge books that.

I saw a large hardback copy of a Kaffe book in a charity shop recently and thought of you - it was too heavy to send as the postage would have cost more than the book. I've been collecting floral fabrics but not found anything as colourful as Kaffe's so it will be interesting to see what your selection will be.
I just checked our Cactus plants and I can see little red dots appearing, so hopefully we'll get lots of blooms, but the're never as big as your beauties:) Have a happy sewing Saturday.

That will be spectacular. Oh yes, we still call them coffee table books. Must be our age! lol

Maybe you can sneak in your beautiful large crane print among the flowers--still remember that fabric. How big are those squares anyway? 10"?

Oh dear, you have reminded me that earlier this year I had booked and paid for a sell out workshop/talk with KF in December. I was sooooo excited until I realised recently that I am going to Germany to visit my daughter the same week. Huge sigh!!
Must have the book for compensation and I love the seed packet quilt.

I'm looking forward to seeing which fabrics you use for your Seed Packet quilt.
Good to have your thoughts on the Artful Improv book, one I have thought about but hesitated on ordering, perhaps I should take the plunge!

It looks like a good book to own. You say you have no formal art training but you certainly have artistic intuition and in my book that makes you an artist.

I am on the list to borrow the book from the library. I always like to see other people's method for improv work.

I've had the new Kaffe book from the library and loved it some much I'm getting it for my upcoming birthday. I like the octagonal floret quilt, wondering whether I have enough big AMH florals ......

Wow. That Seed Packet quilt is gorgeous and your picks for fabric for one are, too. I must get that book and try one. I have quite a few Kaffe and Philip Jacobs' fabrics.
