Quilts back..........................

I got 2 quilts back from my longarm quilter and got them both trimmed and binding cut for both of them.  The blue Interweave binding was done all by machine.  I think its future owner will probably be someone who has no idea that some people hand finish their bindings.  I still hand finish my special favorite quilts.  This one has 2 fabrics on the back and they both show in this photo.  The widest piece is the light fabric showing at the top right in this photo.  The binding is 5 different blue batik strips out of my supply of strips.

I finished sewing the 22 Christmas fabric 1.5" strips into a strata.  I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it yet.  I got my Christmas table runner prepared for quilting.

The repair person for my oven and my dryer is coming today around 11.  I'm hoping it is just the igniter for the oven.  The person I talked to for the appointment was surprised it has never been replaced in the 21 1/2 years I have been using the oven.  I think the drum is just off balance somehow in the dryer.  Otherwise it is working fine.  It is 41 years old, Maytag of course.

Great looking quilt finish! I am sure you will figure out some creative way of cutting up the strata or inserting fabric. Appliances usually do not last very long these days. Especially refrigerators. My last one bit the dust after 13 months. My washer is a Speed Queen- they are very hardy.

Oh bummer about your oven and dryer woes!!:((( Hoping they can be fixed easily for you....
Lovely quilt--I almost always finish my bindings on machine these days; I used that method for the grands' quilts figuring it would last longer--some of my own older quilts that I hand sewed are coming apart these days...
35 here and cloudy today--rain expected overnight for our area--snow north of us --AGAIN!! Gosh, will I ever even see any snow falling again??

Another finish soon! Sometimes I will machine finish binding just because it's sturdier. I sure hope the fellow can get the oven and dryer fixed. 41 years for a dryer is amazing!

It's great that the repairman can work on both appliances in one appointment. I machine-sew bindings exclusively and no one has objected!

Looking forward to the final Blue Interweave post. Machine binding is fast but even with my best effort, it never looks as nice as hand finished binding. Dryers, at least the non electronic ones, can be repaired with replacement parts forever, as yours is proving at 41 years!! Hoping both repairs are quick fixes.

Yes - but most people today would not know that there is such a thing as hand-sewing! How coincidental - my oven igniter just died (on Thanksgiving day - so turkey went into the grill!) and it is 30 years old and my 42 year old Maytag washer and dryer are still rolling along. (Knock on wood!) Minor repairs over the years. Good luck!

oh no your dryer too! I hope you get get news on both of them and they can be fixed. The quilts look pretty and now you will be busy with binding for awhile. I have side of mine left to do.

Love the bindings you chose for the 2 quilts you got back from your long-arm quilter and your narrow strip table runner is a delight!
Sorry that both your oven and dryer need repair now but they've certainly served you well for a long time!

Hugs!

I never hand sew bindings for gift quilts anymore. I figure if I machine stitch it that's there's less a chance that it will come back for repairs!
