I had 2 goals yesterday: renew my driver's license and finish the binding on the pink/gray quilt.
First the driver's license; Illinois is the only state in the country that requires adults over 75 to do a driving (road) test every time they renew their license. I was 78 the first time I had to do the road test, 82 the second time and now I will be 84 in a week for the 3rd time. So I got a 4 yr. license the first time, over 80 they only give a 2 year license and starting with 87 you have to do the road test every year.
Now on to the fun stuff. I worked on hand stitching the binding in three sessions and only have 11" left to stitch. I stopped at 10:45 p.m. and will resume today.
When I went out to get my mail, I noticed the Violas are still doing well. They like cooler weather and got some nice rain early this week. The chipmunk or squirrel that digs in the pot has so far stayed over on the other side where there is just dirt.
The close up shots changed the yellow part to orange so even though it isn't accurate in coloring it is still so pretty.
Above normal temperature is predicted for the next 10 days. 52 is the normal high for today and 56 is predicted. With sunshine that should feel warm. I need to start picking all of the tomatoes and finish ripening them inside.

52 here this morning and sunny once more--still no rain or any in sight...I can't ever recall such a long dry spell....I may just have to perform my rain dance [not a good visual!! hahaha]
hugs, Julierose
Loving the pink and gray. And your violas are beautiful.
Talk about discrimination! People of all ages drive like they have no sense, but yet it is decided that old people are the problem. I am glad you passed! Woohoo!!!! In Ohio you can get a license for 7 years as long as you are under 70. After that you can only get 3 or 4 years. Discrimination!
I really like that striped binding! The violas are so pretty!
Great post today Wanda ~ Pink and Gray quilt top finished and your violas are a vision to behold. And your weather is working well for you. Its been forecasted for rain and snow for a week now and it hasn’t happened yet here in the mountains . JJM
I understand the reasoning they have for the road test but I wouldn't like it. There are a lot of other people that should be getting it in my opinion but yet they assume all older people can't drive correctly/safely anymore
Happy birthday!! I’m sure it feels good to have your driving test done. I love hearing your weather because, located outside Pittsburg, I get a glimpse of what’s coming our way.
Down here, every two years after you are 80, and at our Dr's surgery I need to do a cognitive test, draw a clock, remember a person's name and address, identify bird or animal drawn, and name as many animals in 2 minutes. They will do a practical if they think you are not capable of driving safely.Well done Wanda, I was 84 in July, how have the years managed to catch up so fast. I had to take my Bernina 440QE to our local repair man and declare it now weighs way more than the 10.8 plus Kg ( 24 pound) it was a few years ago.Barry lent me a Bernina 801, maybe a 1950 model, almost as heavy and still sewing so well.
Happy Birthday. In California, over 70 (?) we don't have to drive and get a license for 5 years.
