Strips........

I sewed one more strip set after I took this photo.  I pressed them last night so I'm one step closer to deciding what I will make out of them.
I started pressing out fold marks and cutting strips for the purple 16 patch quilt.  I have 28 strips cut and that will make 28 blocks.  I could get 2 or 3 strips out of some of the pieces of fabric so if I want more than 2 blocks with each fabric I can use them.  However..........I have lots more larger pieces of fabric from which I can cut strips.

Have you seen one of these?  It is an amaryllis bulb coated with wax and it doesn't need watering.  My sister-in-law gave it to me for Christmas.  She decided she better give it to me early because it was starting to grow.

This is the label that was in the container.  It says the flower stalks are shorter than on the potted bulbs.  There is a wire base that is supposed to keep it from tipping over.  I'll show it once a week so you can watch it grow too.

At first glance I thought the bulb was a bird sculpture! How fascinating. Can't wait to see it grow.

Do you have to take the wax off when you move it to a pot? Or is a one and done kinda thing?

I've never seen a bulb/plant done that way. Very unique to say the least.

Love all the colours in your fabric strips - something to keep me watching and waiting to see what they turn into. Lovely Christmas present from your S.I.L. and it may be potable later in the New Year, after flowering; fingers crossed :)

Never, ever seen a bulb in wax before, keep us posted on progress! I love seeing the KF collective fabric cut into strips, they all just go together so well.

Excited to see what becomes of all the colorful strips, and the bulb in wax. I wonder if there's moisture/nutrients trapped in there? It seems odd/wrong that it can grow otherwise. I'm so glad you showed it, it reminds me that I want to get some Christmas bulbs to grow. For the scent as much as the flowers. I used to grow amaryllis and/or paperwhites regularly, but haven't had either in several years.

I always enjoy your 16 patch blocks and wow....the amaryllis is neat, I haven't seen anything like that.

Look forward to watching your flower grow-just as I look forward to watching your quilts grow. Do you know where the bulb was purchased? Would love to buy one for my Mom.
