Another method of zig zag.......

My friend Diane gave me a link in her comment the other day for another method of zig zag.  It is done with 60 degree triangles sewn in rows.  I had some triangles already cut to do a little mock up with.  I will have to cut a lot more if I make this one.  My die cuts 10 at a time and 10 layers deep so pulling the fabrics and pressing them will be the time consuming part.
I think that if I do put a border on this quilt it needs to be something neutral, like black and white.  I thought of zebra stripes but didn't have one that I liked.  I pulled my favorite stripe.
I tried a stop border first but unfortunately it did what it was supposed to do and stopped the flow from the quilt blocks into the border and I don't think I like it.  I don't want it to scream "I have a border".  Today I need to vacuum the basement and clear off the tables so I'll glance over at it several times and see if I'm liking it or not.

Good morning. I do like your favorite stripe material; it's perfect for that quilt. Looking at the pictures, I think that the quilt looks better without the stop border. Either way though, it is a fun, colorful quilt. I need to vacuum my basement too, but not today. :)

The zig zag would make a cute border. I have been reading your blog for a while now and enjoy it. Your brave use of color is refreshing.

Hmmm....that makes me wonder if that 60 degree triangle is a die I have for the GO!

I love the new zig-zag quilt...keep at it!

Both borders work, but I think I like the border better without the smaller red strip.

Love the triangles as a zig zag. Have been looking to use something like this as a monochromatic background. I think this might fit the bill. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for sharing a different zig zag method. That is really neat.

How abut trying a narrow white or black for the first border??
Like that 60 degree idea!

You always leave us wanting to see more. I love that about your blog. Will look forward to seeing how you will finish your Zig-Zag.

And the other design for the triangles, is wonderful. I hope you continue with that one. What you have laid out already has me inspired. I like the description of what 'Marie' used ... Sophisticated.

Oh, my, another method for zig zag. I think I have that die. I'll have to look. And I think you are right about the stop border. It looks too much like a "regular" quilt with it there, and we all know Wanda does NOT make regular quilts! Thank God.

Love love love the black and white border. You have such a great eye! I'm on the verge of making this type of quilt too . . . you make it very tempting!

oh! You know what the neat thing about the triangle zig-zag is?? There are *no seams* to match! Everything is offset from each other! That means low stress! :-)

As for the border on the other zig-zag quilt ... what about extending the color of the outside triangle to make a "piano key" border? That would make the border flow into the zig-zag blocks. It would be more work on your part but would look really neat.

I like your new zigzag quilt because of the lack of 'lights' - still contrast but very dramatic. A big plus is no need to match also!

I love coming to your site. I do follow you on my blog. Please tell me what die cutting device you use that cuts that many at a time. Thank You

I guess I'm more traditional than I thought......I like it with the stopper. When it yelled, "I've got a border !", I'd yell back, " I KNOW,.....I put it there !"

Ha..hee.........

Otherwise, I'd like a more black than white border piece, but I don't make quilts near as cool or interesting as you, so I bow to your expertise.

I really like that triangle zigzag......where can I see a whole quilt done in it. Where did you find it?

I like that new zig zag design. Great idea with the 60* triangles.

I am a fan of it without the stop border too.

Love how your zigzag quilt came out! I like it with the stripe, gives a look of a woven rug with fringe.

I love the striped border. It does the work of a stop border in itself because it breaks the direction of the zigzags with its horizontal stripes and yet it seems a cohesive part of the quilt.

Like your triangle blocks. That is a cute way to do zigzags.

I understand what you mean about the border/borders. Thank you for demonstrating both. Such a beautiful, colorful quilt.
Never though of 60 degree triangles!!! I love them, too.

I love this newest zigzag. I have enough scraps to maybe make this one, that is when the other projects are done. Right now working on Christmas presents. Also seem to get more than one of your posts at a time. I wonder why. I am answering from a post of yours that was written on Saturday and it is now Monday. Also received a newer post than this one. Enjoy the cool days that are coming soon.

I love that point of not wanting it to scream "I have a border". You are so right about that and it was a mistake I have made in the past. I can definitely see it in your two examples.
