Cut and sew first block.......

I made the first test block for the Target Log Cabin from Kaffe's book (shown in this post).  I am using Philip Jacobs and Martha Negley fabric too in this quilt.
I found the sheet of paper with my calculations on it and I was correct in figuring 3 strips for one fabric (dark in this block) and 2 strips of the other.  The 2 strips at the bottom of the photo are leftover and are supposed to be used in the stripped sashing.
When I went out to fill the bird feeders I found my red weigela bush in bloom.
I cut this bush down to about 18" in the fall of 2009.  I'll have to trim it again this year.

I love that the square in the middle is just yellow green without the gold or pink mixed in with it. To me that says, "There's no fear of commitment, here!"

Love the color combos in this block. I don't believe that I have ever seen a red weigela. We have the pink variety. The red is gorgeous!

That's a GORGEOUS block. Love the fabrics together! I wouldn't have thought to pair them, so thanks for sharing. I need to get bolder in my fabric choices.

Love this block. I can't wait to see it all come together with your fabric choices. I want to do another log cabin varation also.

It is a nice color combination and I know the quilt is going to be beautiful. I always call the Weigela bush the Bee bush as the bee's really love it. It is doing fantastic after you cut it back. You must have a beautiful yard.

I like this quilt! It does not look like a log cabin, but that pattern is SO versatile. Actually it looks like this quilt that I got last year.

What a great block. I would never have thought to use that bright floral with the darker fabric. It looks great cut into strips. Beautiful pictures of all your blooming plants.
