Playing with the little pieces.......

I don't want to make another batik log cabin quilt (I have 4 waiting to be quilted) so I decided to sew the left over pieces into little blocks.  I could use this for one of my 2011 journal challenge quilts but it would be 1/2" smaller in one direction than all of the rest.  I know that wouldn't bother anyone but me, so I'll think about it.

I opened the box of the next size longer strips and pieced 3's into blocks.  There are 21 blocks so I could add 3 1/2" plain blocks between them for a table runner or just sew them together for a table centerpiece/hot dish mat.

I did sew some rows of the zig zag quilt together while I was doing laundry.  Yesterday afternoon I visited a friend's studio.  She had me come over and look at it and give her suggestions last week and the transformation is wonderful.  Maybe I could get inspired and clean off my own table tops now.

I always love your batiks and what you do for playtime! I wish you could come over and comb through my stash, suggest how I can use some of the pieces I just "had" to have when I bought them. I think I have too many clashy pieces that are pretty on their own, but don't always play well with their neighbors.

In yesterday's post I had to laugh at Chippy - you can tell he's the "alpha" chipmunk on the yard!

You're inspiring me to make a scrappy quilt with all of my small, leftover pieces!

Do you ever have a problem with your batiks bleeding? Or do you pre-wash all your fabrics?

Love this half moon over the horizon! And I see some familiar patterns.

Well maybe you could come over and help me. I've been sitting here for 2 days trying to figure out how to rearrange things to work more efficiently.

I do like the darker colors mixed in. It makes the other colors/patterns really stand out.

Such beautiful quilts from just bits and pieces. They are so colorful and cheerful. You are amazing in the way you can put it all together.

As always, I love your quilt. Today I cleaned the sewing room. I finally found the table which was covered with fabric. It is now neatly stacked and put away. Next it is time to work on the design wall.
