3 leftover blocks.............

Yesterday I was busy and didn't find any time to sew.  I did however go down to the design wall and put the 3 leftover blocks into the large 16 patch to see if that would work instead of the plain lighter value. I will need to piece 2 more strips sets to have enough blocks to totally fill it in.  I love all of the comments and opinions (keep them coming!) and you all know I'll do what I feel is best anyway.  A couple people commented that they thought the white in the star was too bright and it should be over dyed.  Actually what I liked about it was that it was lighter and shows up.  By over-dyeing it would just blend in and hardly be noticed.  I guess my idea was that it would be the "star" of the show and that the rest of the blocks would be the supporting actors.  I thought that the white was balanced out the by the light blue in 3 of the small 16 patches and that the 6 new blocks I need to make will also have a very light value in them.  I guess we will know tomorrow.........stay tuned!

I love the "white outlined star" block. It truly is the star of the quilt, and all of the other blocks play so well with it. Hope it stays

I really like how the added small blocks in the large one make it almost disappear. It makes you looked harder to see the big one.
I also like how the white makes the star pop.

I agree with you that the star deserves to be the main feature of the quilt and that more lighter blocks will help balance it out. I also like the small 16-patch blocks as part of the giant block.

It is looking good. I like just the (3) little 16 patch blocks in the big 16 patch. It is a fun quilt.

I like putting those three little 16 patch in that giant 16 patch. It softens that giant block. It is crazy good what you can do with leftover bits and pieces!

Yes, yes, yes....that did the trick for the extra large section! Not it all has a reason to reside there. Just loving this!

I have been backing away from commenting on your stuff since you are amazing, but this time you will get my opinion. The star block is neither too light or too dark it is perfect in the quilt because it is different enough to bring my eye to it, but it isn't annoying to me and my eye doesn't linger too long. I wish I had the imagination to do the unexpected and have it make me go -AWWW. I love it.

Yes, you are right about that star. It is the star of the whole top. I love it when you tweak things.

Oh yes! Leftover blocks in large 16-patch have a new home!

The white of the Star makes it stand out while the colors blend with the sixteen patches. Kind of like the planets standing out within the Milky Way. :-)

The star makes it interesting... can't wait to see how you place the last lighter blocks. Of course you do it your own way, thow It would be interesting to see if they make the star twinkle even more if placed randomly around the star. On the right side the big- and two semi sized 16 path are vertically in a row - the balance in the quilt would probably benefit from breaking that line.

The more I look at it, the more I like the pop that the white in the star provides.

That star is gorgeous! It definitely belongs in that mix. I guess I shouldn't just nod me head to agree with you, but take time to comment. By all means, leave it there, and there is plenty of lights in the quilt for it as it appears in this picture. I love your color sense.

I love the star just as it is in the top! The white surrounding the star makes it sparkle and shine and stand out and the whole look makes the quilt top so interesting, almost as though it's depicting one very beautiful star visible in the sky.

I'm with you, the white in the star is what makes things pop.

I love how your mind works! It is such fun to "watch" you create your amazing quilts - ;))

My reaction to the larger star is not that the white makes it pop but the dark around it! I'd be tempted to put some of the darker blocks alongside it just to see what happens. But you always come up with the best layout --- it is fun watching you figure that out!
