A beautiful sunrise.............

This was the sunrise yesterday morning.  I rarely ever see one this pretty.  Maybe that is because I'm not usually up at the right time, but in reality I think it is a rare thing.
My friend Mary asked yesterday what would happen if I turned the blocks in the second row a quarter turn.  I tried it and I'm not sure if this is what she meant but I like it.  It is a zig zag superimposed over a stripe background.  Now I have 3 layouts to choose from: twisted rail, stacked spools and this one.  I will be making 16 more blocks.
I had to get a better shot of the pale pink cactus bloom.  There are 20 buds on this plant this time.  I read that they like to be pot bound and this is one of the smaller pots.  It bloomed the first time in Sept., again in late Oct, and now in Jan.

This is a great layout for the quilt... Really gives the eye something to find. How would you quilt this? Love the color of the sky!! and I still don't have a cactus!

That is a very interesting zigzag with lots of depth. I usually miss the sunrise too. That one is quite spectacular!

That is a beautiful sunrise.

I like all of the layouts, but I may like this one best

What a super sunrise! I saw a mini one like that on Wednesday on the way to PT. Love the color of the cactus flower. Have to put my painting of my cactus on my blog, will try to do that today. I tried to capture the exploding nature of the blooms. Interesting pattern with turning the blocks.

I'm sure which ever one you pick will be great. Maybe make three different quilts with the different lay outs. I know more work. More snow on the way. Good time to sew. Chris

I really like this zig-zag arrangement. Makes me want to try a quilt like this - but in blues.

Love the pink sky! I am digging the zig zag - big surprise ha ha!
The weather is warmer here also which is a welcome relief from all that cold. The contractors are finally able to get back to work today on the job site.

The sky is lovely, I am envious of your multiple buddings, and that layout is wonderful-you got a home run today!!!

Beautiful sunrise, nature does stun us with these colours early on, they fade so fast. The layout, I like it the very best. Cheers from Jean

The 'zig zag' layout is a wonderful surprise. I think I like it the best. Your sunrise shot is Mother Nature at her finest.

Now that setting has an "Art Deco" look to it...gorgeous! I could see that for a border on a quilt too. I missed the sunrise ...very nice. Mother Nature is so artistic! A great inspiration for the day.

Fave is the zig zag/ stripe.
then the twisted rails.
Then the stacked spools.
Great blocks anyway you look at it! I like this colorway.
Lovely sunrise, too. My studio looks out to northeast onto pond. I see wonderful sunrises in the late spring-early autumn. Love them!
Because of your posts with the Christmas Cacti, I bought a beautiful pot of pink/white ones. Hope I am lucky enough to get multiple bloom times, too.

For me, this layout wins - it is fabulous!

Gorgeous sunrise - and a great photo, too.

Somehow that sunrise photo makes me feel so nostalgic! I like the layout, it has so much depth you can look directly into the quilt.

Oh WOW! I REALLY like this lay out! What an interesting quilt it would be like this? What a beautiful sunrise.....and I assume you haven't seen the sun much today with the snow? Thank God you have that beautiful Christmas Cactus to remind you of warmth!

Wanda, you are definitely the "Christmas Cactus Whisperer"! I've never seen anyone's as pretty as yours.

I really like that newest layout. It has layers of interest even though there aren't a lot of colors.

That is the most beautiful sunrise I've ever seen! I'm rarely up at that time of day on the weekend.

Beautiful sunrise! I have to admit - just about the only time I see the sunrise, is if I stay up long enough that it rises before I go to sleep. Even in winter when the sunrise is late, I never get up early enough to see it! That's just not my body's schedule!

Happened upon your blog from a Pinterest pic and I immediately started following. I have purchased Rayna's book, "Free Form Quilts". What is the name of that block? that pattern's secondary look! What is the name of that block?

Your fabric choices give a very nice three dimensional look to this zigzag layout. I would definitely choose this one, myself, as it's fascinating to look at.

That is a stunning sunrise!
I really like the zig zag look you're getting with that setting -- of course, the fabrics you're working with really make that setting appealing.

Lovely sunrise! And my favorite of the 3 settings is this newest one, with the turn your friend suggested.

That is a beautiful sunrise! I do not see them either since I retired! I do like the zig-zag layout!
