The first thing I'll say is that it is a lot prettier in person than I have been able to capture in a photo. This little quilt top is all Kaffe Fassett collective fabrics. I was able to use a pile of scraps and just a few pieces cut from yardage. I would never have made this quilt if I didn't have a die to use for the cutting. Its a Bow Tie die, with a wonderful secondary pattern.
I bought this cute piece of flannel on sale a couple months ago and I think it is perfect for the backing.
There are some really old Kaffe prints in this quilt top as well as newer ones.
This quilt top is 36" x 45".
Discovery time again. I started making these yo-yos when I was the main driver for my elderly parents, 2008. There was a lot of time to sit and wait.
They aren't very consistent in the centers.
Some are made with batik, some Kaffe, and some other prints.
I bagged each size with its yo-yo maker so if I ever get the urge to make more, the parts are together. I haven't made any with the jumbo maker but there are 2 circles cut and waiting. On this post I showed an inspiration quilt and also a tutorial how to use the yo-yo makers.

I have a heart yoyo maker I've used quite a few times on crazy quilt (cq) blocks. I used to participate in a lot of cq round robins. I have a vintage yoyo table topper I picked up from the thrift store a long time ago. It is put together without a backing and the yoyos just tacked together on four sides. I just love that vintage yoyo top on your old blog post. What an ambitious project.
Boy, oh boy, did that send me down a yo-yo rabbit hole! Pretty clever tool for making yo-yo’s. So many ways to use yo-yo’s other than the rather flimsy sewing them to each other edge to edge!
Your first quilt is so pretty--love all those KF prints, old and new in it...nice work with the button corners;)))
I haven't made yo-yos in years--I always admired my Auntie Irene's yo-yo bed cover she would put out every summer..I've never used a yo-yo maker either...I must give them a try...Great idea to store the maker with the finished yo-yo sizes...
36 here this gray morning; since we have storms predicted over this coming weekend, we may take ourselves out for breakfast --[I wonder if their egg prices will have gone up? ]
Hoping you have a wonderful weekend and perhaps some fun making a few yo-yos...hugs, Julierose P.S. Thnx for the webbing tips;)))
Recently saw a pic of a wall hanging made of strings of yo- yos and thought it was a great way to display them. With your various sizes, that would be very interesting. Impressive to find them AND the yo-yo makers to be able to keep them all together!
Yes it is very pretty, even not in person! I remember those yo-yo quilts. I was not into quilting at that point in my life but thought they were really neat at the time.
Love your quarter bow tie blocks. This is super cute!
Is the bow tie die from Accuquilt? Do you have the die number? I have looked on their site but it does not come up, except that the value die could be used (4 1/2" square with the 2 1/2" half triangle).
I wonder if yo-yos are making a comeback. A friend was making them at our last neighborhood quilt group gathering for an art quilt. She had been colleting satins and other shiny fabrics for years at thrift stores.
Your quilt top is wonderful and that backing is indeed perfect for it. For some odd reason, I've never gotten into yo yo's - they're such fun to look at but . . .
Your new quilt top is just delightful with its happy colors and the cozy flannel backing it will have.
Back in 2008 you certainly used the waiting time well. That's a lot of colorful yo-yos! Might they become doll quilts?
Hugs!
A beautiful start for Feb. I purchased a regular & a jumbo yoyo maker at a quilt show a few months but but haven't tried it out yet,way back in the day like the 70's lol my husband's Aunt made a top out of them to cover her bed like a bedspread,I shutter to think how many she had to make as there were no yoyo makers back then
very pretty top...you are way ahead of the curve...just saw tilda's new collection summer breeze and prints very similar....yoyos? not me!
The quilt top turned out very pretty! That cute flannel print will be perfect for the back.
OMG finding all those yo-yo's from 20+ years ago :) what will you do with them I wonder. When one of my daughters was in and out of doctor appointments and the hospital about 4 years ago I was dragging a yarn bag around with me and finished a afghan. Amazing at times what we can get done with in waiting rooms. I love the baby quilt.
I use my yoyos as flowers. They are super cute with Sunbonnet Sues.
You created such a charming and yet elegant Baby Quilt. Cute flannel Backing is so perfect to cuddle Baby in. And your YoYo’s brought back such fun memories and wouldn’t it be fun to make a table runner.
love your baby quilt... Also, thanks for providing the link to the antique yo-yo quilt. I can see why you saved it for 'inspiration' !
I love your quilt top.
Love the quilt top! Creative fabric choices makes it look fresh!
The top quilt is such a delight! Makes me think of gelato or sorbet colours, a beautiful quilt.
Just catching up on reading this am...love the baby quilt (yummy) and those yoyos are so vibrant! The antique Japanese quilt you showed was great. Lots of fun in your studio!
Yo-yos were never my cup of tea. Have a baby quilt in the closet that has sat in the closet for YEARS because I hated making the yo-yo centers, lol. I love your Kaffe Fasset top. I recently came across the low volume you did from Woodberry Way and started one of my own. This is such a different look for that quilt.
What a gorgeous light hearted looking quilt top! The colors are just sweet and pretty and very feminine. Lovely!
