Trying to finish another

Last night I decided I would check out the temperature outside by driving down to the grocery store and if it wasn't too bad, I would go to see a movie at our local theater. I didn't think it felt too bad, even for 17 degrees so I went home and put away my groceries and went back out to my van to leave. The battery was dead! I guess it's a good thing I didn't get there and find it dead when I came out of the theater. My brother is an auto repair guy so he will bring me a new battery later today. My van will be 6 years old in April so I guess I did pretty well on the first battery.

As long as I was home for the evening I decided to finish this quilt top. All it needed was the 4 corner triangles. Rather than spend the time looking for the rest of the pansy fabric, I used 4 leftover setting triangles on the corners. The outside edges are bias on them so I am going to leave them oversized until the quilting is done and trim them when I trim the edges.

I had purchased 8.5 yards of this yellow fabric when a quilt shop was going out of business and having their sale. I had the fabric wrapped on a bolt board so there was minimal pressing needed on it. I got the 3 pieces sewn together and pressed.
Since I will be home all morning I might as well keep working on it.

  1. It's always better to be at home when you have car problems! Love the quilt. The backing fabric is gorgeous.

  2. See Wanda your angels were watching out for you. It would have been awful to come out of the movies and find your car dead. Staying home to finish your lovely quilt is a much better option.

  3. Nice front....also nice back of quilt.

You lucky thing to be in the comfort of home when the car dies. Oh, and to have a repairman in the family....I want one too!

  4. it is always better to have car problems at home then out - wouldn't have been good to come out of the movie to a van that wouldn't start - which movie did you plan to see? We recently saw Sherlock Holmes - it was ok but not as good as I expected it to be.

  5. Glad you were at home when you noticed that your battery was dead. I guess the battery gods were smiling on you. Happy quilting this morning! That's what I am going to do too.

  7. Wow that little corner you showed in this looks nice...but I clicked through to see the full quilt! It is amazing.

You didn't say, but I am assuming the yellow Fabric is for the backing. Are you going to start quilting it soon? I would love to see the finished product (even quilted but not bound)

  10. Another lovely spring-like quilt!
You were so lucky to be home when the battery died rather than out somewhere.

  12. Beautiful backing, I did this pattern all in pinks, I loved working on it. I quilted it with straight lines, easy! Love your color choices. I looked back at your post from Jan 09, I agree, this time of year is all about finishing for me too, then I get antsy and start a bunch of projects!

  13. Lovely selection of fabrics in this quilt. The colorwashed quilts take so much planning, and after that it's just fun, fun, fun seeing it come to life.

    This is a spectacular quilt.

  14. This isn't the best place to post this, but I didn't want to go back a few pages and loose the comment.

Anyway, I wanted to thank you for the wonderful charm pack that arrived today! It was such a nice suprise after the rush of Christmas and I have enjoyed browsing through the many fabrics. There were lots of fabrics that I had never seen before and I'm a quilter from the good ol' days too.

Thank you again for your generosity and for providing inspiration to all of us that follow your blog.

I pray that 2010 will be full of blessings and great delights for you and your loved ones!

  15. Wow, must be something with the cold and cars. I am glad you didn't get stranded at the movie theater either. I have to tell you that the pansy fabric from Hoffman is one of my favorite of all time. Don't ask me why, I couldn't tell you. But I loved it enough to buy it in almost all the color ways that they made, including the one in your quilt. By the way, that quilt is just beautiful!

  16. Pink 'n green symphony ! Just gorgeous. Love the backing also.

Glad your brother can help you out with a new battery. Don't give up on the movie... I love to hear the 'condensed version' of the new ones out now.

  17. Your blooming 9-patch is so gorgeous! Wow is all I can say.

Aren't batteries sneaky? There's never a clue they are going to go out on you, then Bam, they're dead. Most inconvenient!

  18. I love that quilt. I also join with the "throngs" of people who have said they are glad you didn't get stuck with a dead battery outside the movie theater.

  19. Having just experienced my husband's car suddenly dying in the garage while he was out of town, I feel your relief at having had the problem happen at home. Unfortunately, his was more than a simple battery replacement, but such is life.

Your quilt looks beautiful and I think using the setting triangles on the corners was an excellent choice.

  20. I agree with others, it is lucky you stayed home!
I just adore Pansies, & was surprised to learn the flowers are considered edible. They are so beautiful. I have a long made top using many Pansy fabrics, & must get it made into a whole quilt.
I wish you a Prosperous, Healthy, Joyfilled 2010.
    Love megxx
