Strata cut and sewn................

I sliced the strata that was sewn into a tube and unpicked a seam in a different place on each of the 20 slices.  This is the layout on the design wall before I started sewing them together.

I decided I will make 2 table runners and have sewn one together.  It lost 4.5" in width with the seams sewn (compared to the layout).

Many of my cactus plants have buds and I saw the first blooms yesterday.  This is a piece I saved off a dying white cactus 2 years ago.

I decided to move the other two that are closest to blooming over to the coffee table to join the white one.  One of them is a champagne color and the other a deep rose.  After I took this photo I moved a pale pink one over there too.

  3. Do you have any tips for keeping the buds on the cacti and getting them to bloom? I just bout one from Trader Joes and it's covered with buds but I see a few have fallen off already.

  4. Gorgeous stratas you've sewn, Wanda--They will make beautiful table runners...
31 this morning--no frost visible--but the temp has risen to 55--partly cloudy today. I walked on our treadmill and I am hoping to be able to get the binding on one of my "Snowball" quilts...

I see your cacti are even blooming ;))))--I have little teeny buds sprouting on mine and I purchased a new two-color one--peach and orange--just lovely and in bloom now...

  5. Your sensational strata cut into two table runners makes for a spectacular showing. And a melody of Cacti’s blooming on your tea table is a sight to behold. ~ JJM

  10. My two cacti from last year have done very little. I bought some Christmas Cactus fertilizer and have my fingers crossed as I can see a few tiny buds starting to show color. Good decision on the strata (2 table runners) and what a lot of lovely florals!
