My son and daughter in law came over yesterday and gave me my belated birthday present, help cleaning the garage. What would have taken me a week and lots of indecision got done in 3 hours. They also brought beef/barley soup and I baked some beer bread.
Last night, even though I was tired I decided to get all 80 blocks up on the design wall. Half of the blocks have a dotted triangle and 3 florals, the other half have 4 floral triangles. I alternated the 2 kinds of blocks which resulted in the dotted triangles all being in a vertical position. I see 2 light and one dark pinwheel as it is now. I have options. 1. Sew it just as it is and be done with it. 2. Exchange block positions and create some dotted pinwheels. 3. Play a little more and create more light pinwheels.
This quilt is one to be enjoyed close up, not one that has a focal point. It just makes me happy to see all of the floral fabrics together.
Since it’s a close up quilt, maybe sewing it together is the way to go? Isn’t it amazing how much faster a cleaning up job goes with help? What a wonderful gift your son & daughter-in-law gave you :)
ReplyDeleteLots of fun going on there! I like the idea of creating dotty pinwheels.
ReplyDeleteAs far as your options.... I think it's awesome just like it is, but with your incredible ability to take it to the next level, you could move them around to maximize it's awesomeness. But then you'd run the risk of not having exactly what you need and needing to make more blocks. It's gorgeous, I'd leave it as is.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great gift! And soup and beer bread - yum. I love your quilt just as it is - the dots nicely balance all of it. But anything you do will be gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely and the dots give it a lot of whimsy.........sew and be done gets my vote!
ReplyDeleteI like No 1--it is so pretty as is, Wanda--full of movement and color changes...
ReplyDelete43 here with temps slated to fall during the day--we had approx'ly .75" of rain yesterday--great to break our dry spell--doesn't fix our drought, but helps with those wildfires springing up all over our State...
Have a great weekend hugs, julierose
I vote to sew it as it is now - no need to fussy it up with those gorgeous florals.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely luv it! & you have inspired me to go through my florals & polka dots 😄
ReplyDeleteHooray for help with the garage! I'd go with #1. I like the 'punctuation' of the dotted fabric.
ReplyDelete‘Exuberant Color’ at its best ~ you did it again Wanda and it is amazing combination of polka dots and florals. Layout is SUPREME as it is.

that is nice to get the garage cleaned out! that saved you a lot of time and bending and stretching. The floral are looking great
ReplyDeleteI'd like to see the pinwheel option!
ReplyDeleteHow great to get help with the garage and that lunch was furnished. That was a priceless gift!
ReplyDeleteTime and help are the best gifts! I like how the quilt is looking.
ReplyDeleteThe dotty pinwheel would be fun to add, but I think this quilt will be joyous if you sew it together as it is. If a couple of block bug you, fix that, but there seems to be little need for a full scale reshuffle of the pretty blocks.
ReplyDeleteAh, how nice to have young backs to help with cleaning up and clearing out the garage, yummy soup and beer bread to share along with pleasant conversation. A birthday gift worth waiting for!
Hugs!
Congratulations on getting the garage squared away! It helps to have other eyes to evaluate things as to what to keep and not keep…and extra hands to move it all. The quilt layout is beautiful. I like how many of the florals have their own polka dot shapes in the flowers.
