Since this quilt is going to end up so small I had been thinking about a border. Yesterday I came up with the idea of a pieced border like I have done on other quilts. The pieces will be cut 3.5" x 6.5" out of a variety of floral fabrics. I will piece them at the same time as the quarter square triangle blocks (webbing) so I didn't get anything sewn together yesterday. I'll start cutting today.
I got 2 quilts back yesterday so I have some trimming to do and a search for a binding fabric for the neutral color batik 16 patch. I'm going to use the leftover backing fabric for the confetti quilt binding.
We had snow Thursday and now 50s predicted for Sunday and Monday. Below freezing weather is going to start next Friday so I think our warm days will be over.
It's amazing how the same block can look so different both are beautiful, I have several that are waiting to be batted & backed hopefully the upcoming week I can put a dent in them, the florals & polka dots are going to make a glorious lap size quilt !
ReplyDeleteI love the floral border! Perfect!!
ReplyDeleteYour two quilted pieces are so lovely--both so different, yet the same pattern--just how much fabric choices make really demonstrated with these two beauties;))). I do love the look of the batik--very "lace-y" .
ReplyDeleteSprinkling here; we've gotten over 1" of rain so far...still not enough though to end our drought conditions, but good to help with the fires....
I sewed 4 nine patches yesterday from some of my blue/white mini charm squares and set up 4 more...sort of a "Wintry" look
I am thinking...baby steps...
I hope we get some snow here but with temps staying in the 40's it doesn't look good ;((( Hugs, Julierose
Love the fabrics...and as long as we have food and warmth, I say let the cold weather come...lol

Your floral border is crazy beautiful! Love your two finished quilts. I would have a hard time deciding between any of your quilts, they are all so pretty.
ReplyDeleteSo fun getting quilts returned all quilted! I just pulled a twin sized quilt off the longarm and got it trimmed right away. I used to hate trimming them but now I do it right away and it’s no big deal….I think I was afraid of the ruler slipping. I now use hand weights on the ruler and they really help. I like your idea for the border on the floral/polka dots quilt……bonus is being able to add the border while assembling the blocks :D
ReplyDeleteThe rectangles will add a nice geometric contrast. Snow all melted here!
ReplyDeletesomeone else's blog just showed first snow too and she got a bit out in SW VA in the mountains. The weatherman keeps going back and forth on that we might get a dusting of snow in the first couple days after Thanksgiving - we will see
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy seeing and hearing what your next step is going to be with your awesome quilts. Today is no exception… I start my day with your blog and we are an hour behind you and so many start their day with your blog also ~ it’s fun to read what they’ve got to say.
ReplyDeleteWhen I've done a pieced border, I cut the rectangles at different widths so I don't have to do the math to fit them perfectly! I also like to put the same tone-on-tone fabric on both sides of the pieced border for definition. That's just me. :-)
ReplyDeleteHugs!
I like that border idea!
ReplyDeletefriday we had a 15-minute flurry of flakes but rain quickly followed...it's what we mostly get in winter anyway...unless it's ice
