The only sewing I got done yesterday was to sew 2 long columns together.
I spent more time outside planting things I had dug on Thursday and Friday.
One of the plants was being moved from the front garden which is going to be dug up and redone. It is the Husker Red Penstemon (Beardtongue). It came out of the ground in pieces instead of one clump. This is 2 pieces planted together.
Here are 2 larger pieces of the plant together in one spot. I haven't had a lot of luck with the plant coming back the second year after transplanting so I'm hoping this one will make it.
The Bleeding Heart now has 2 branches of flowers and there is a third one down low on a small part of the plant.
I also planted some small pieces of Hostas in pots hoping they will be large enough to go in the ground this fall.
Happy Mother's Day to every woman who has ever been a mother figure in someone's life!
It's good to see you working in the garden, getting some fresh air. I've not seen white Bleeding Heart before (only yours) - mine was pink but think it's died off now. My 3 varieties of Clematis have buds starting to open so will have a good show this year. My Fuchsia's, Peonies, Hydrangeas are all doing well. Not bought any new plants so far.
ReplyDeleteI'm back to sewing my Spider Web quilt and putting on sashing now. Hope all is well with you and you have some good weather this coming week :)
I wish I had luck with the bleeding hearts I have tried them 2 times and both times died, I think I had them in too deep of shade perhaps one time it lasted 3 years and then disappeared on me.
ReplyDeleteHappy Mother's Day to you! My bleeding heart did like where I put it, so it seeded itself in two places clear across the garden. Fine by me, there are now two. It has been raining here so much I have not been able to plant like you.
ReplyDeleteIt's funny that so many people seem to have trouble growing bleeding hearts. I have both pink and white and also a fern leaf variety and the first two grow up weeds, spreading (by seed) everywhere. I wind up digging some up and tossie're getting a half day of sunshine between raining days and quite cool, with frost warnings at night.

You accomplished a lot of gardening and some sewing also. I hope you take today off and enjoy your Mother's Day.
ReplyDeleteYour garden and Lesley's garden are way way ahead of mine for sure, I'm just beginning to see leaves coming back on my clematis. I know very little about the U.K. but I'm assuming she lives in a warmer climate to have so many plants thriving.

Happy Mother's Day Wanda!
ReplyDeleteAnd a very happy Mother's Day to you, too! Gardening is happening here as well - the kids brought me a lovely (large) perennial lavender plant today (raining here - planting tomorrow).
ReplyDeleteHappy Mother's Day to you! Are you getting help digging up that front bed? I hope you post some before and during pictures. Seems like I am not the only one this spring that is redoing a bed! :) Mine is doing good despite the cold weather.
ReplyDelete@JJM - I live in Hull, East Yorkshire, on the north east coast. The weather's not been hot but we've had some sunshine. I gave my plants a feed 2 weeks ago so I think that helped. I only have a small walled back-yard garden so not a lot of attention is needed :)
ReplyDeleteHope you see my reply.
