Since I didn't have an African fabric colorwash at my house any more I needed to be working on one for my students working with African fabrics to see. I had it about half designed for the live broadcast yesterday and I continued working on it afterwards. I have changed a few pieces since I took this photo though. I have cut some more fabrics and thought about adding to it but then I decided I maybe need to just sew this one together and make another with the new fabrics added. I will probably tweak it for a couple more days to make it a little more perfect.
Here is my nature photo to match my project. It makes me wonder if why this happens so often. The leaves are even prettier than they look here. The center of the leaves are a lovely gold/green down the middle of the red edges. It just doesn't show up well in the photo.
I started out taking this close up photo but the color was even more distorted toward the red/purple.
I love this African colorwash and I find it interesting that you show a nature photo to match your quilt project. Years ago I made a colorwash quilt in autumn, I purchased every one of the fabrics in a single trip to the quilt shop and the quilt shouts autumn. I knew without a doubt that I was influenced by all the autumn splendor I saw in nature on that shopping trip.
ReplyDeleteYour African colorwash is fabulous! You have amassed a full range of colors in your collection of African fabrics. I never found any pinks or lavenders when I bought the majority of my stash years ago. I do recognize several of the prints.
ReplyDeleteThe African color wash is lovely. It’s funny how the plant photo matches so well.
ReplyDeleteJust a really beautiful African colorwash quilt piece; I love the motion in the print blocks...you do such lovely work on these quilts...
ReplyDeleteand the plant really does mimic a lot of the fabrics...interesting juxtaposition, Wanda...love it...hugs, Julierose
The colorwash is super- love the patterns and colors. Coleus are so hard to photograph well. I have some unusual ones this year. Everytime I try to take a cutting for over the winter to plant in spring, I am unsuccessful. Hopefully, I will be able to find unusual ones next year.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is lovely . . . but then again you have that special touch and know how to match your fabrics beautifully. Thanks for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteI'm generally not a big fan of African fabrics but I love them cut up in the color wash format.
ReplyDeleteYour two pieces for your monthly recap for Sept. are truly beautiful as always. Explosion of awesome colored fabrics and designs. And then today you show your Colorwash using African fabrics... WOW ! ! ! Thats why I keep checking in to see how you continue to surprise us with yet another beauty in the works. Gorgeous autumn foliage.
