This quilt was loaded on the longarm for a whole week before I finally got down there and quilted it. I thought the straight lines were appropriate for this one. I have 2 fabrics on the back. You can see one on the roller above the quilt and the other at the bottom edge. I think binding will be a black and white print and will be done all by machine.
Summer is here, hot and humid for several days. I could tell how humid it was when I came up the basement stairs. I never know whether to call these Columbines purple or blue. There used to be a pale pink plant next to it but I don't see it this year.
These Columbine blooms are a darker pink than that plant that disappeared. I saw a new plant of the burgundy color Columbine among my Hostas. The buds haven't opened yet but I bet they will soon with this hot and humid spell. I have just 2 seams left to sew on the jewel tone 16 patch quilt top.
I didn't realise Aquilegia was part of the Columbine family. My Aquilegia looks like yours, in the bottom photo. I have light pink and a dark purple and both are just finishing with flowering. It's a bank holiday day here today but it's just like every day :)
Just a lovely quilt--one of my favorites... Lovely columbines--so graceful looking...raining lightly here this Memorial Day...Stay safe ~ ~ ~ waving Julierose
I love the quilt and the quilting - simple quilting is so often the best and let the piecing shine through. summer is here for sure now I wish it would be less rain and not so humid - I am never happy with the weather it seems.
Looking good. Straight lines are best. The KISS principle. Aquilegia is the name for columbine. I love yous. Columbine is the offucial flower of our part of the world.
Apparently the "natural" color of aquilegia/columbine is purple-red -- I looked it up: https://www.illinoiswildflowers.info/woodland/plants/wild_columbine.htm I just checked the aquilegia in my flowerbed. One plant is dark purple and the other is the wild purple-red.
........and I like the color-on-black/white quilt!
Love that quilt, and I think you're right about the quilting. Simple is so often best! Love seeing your columbines, too. Of course it's tooooo hot here for them.
How wonderful you have some color in your yard. Mine is still just varied shades of green. I guess I should go and check and see if the marigolds are coming up. I completely forgot that I had tossed down seed! Oops! Love that quilt.

ReplyDeleteI have always liked the quilt. Looks gorgeous quilted. Pretty hot and humid here and it wipes me out. I did no planting yesterday, but plan to today.
