I stuck with it yesterday and finished sewing the Kaffe 2 Trip Around the World quilt top. I'm calling it Kaffe 2 because it is the second attempt to make one I really love for my own bed. This one is 78.5" x 98" so I had to hang it sideways on a double design wall.
Here is a closer view of the full sequence of fabrics.
I want to play with some solid color fabrics this year and I think I will start with this group of hand dyes by Caryl Fallert from about 15 years ago. The last thing I did with solids was crazy piecing last spring. I think this might be 2 projects, one improv style and one traditional. First I need to press them and then get started. I have a huge bin of hand dyed scraps from many different hand dyers so that might come down off the shelf too. Next in line though is to quilt the colorwash that I basted earlier this week with my 18 year old Pfaff with dual feed.
Yaay for getting the top sewn. I really love that one also.
ReplyDeleteI see that I am not the only one who buys special fabrics and then doesn't use them for years.
Great finish - bet it looks nice on your bed - now onto another new quilt adventure - can't wait :)
ReplyDeleteThe quilt needs to be in a book or magazine. It is just gorgeous! I have some hand dyes that need to made into a quilt and not sure what to do so they stand out and don't get muddy all together.
ReplyDeleteLove it!
ReplyDeleteSpectacular quilt top!!!! Good for you for getting those hand dyes and solids down off the shelf.
ReplyDeleteYour Kaffe 2 quilt is a true stunner!!!
ReplyDeleteI look forward to seeing what you do with the hand dyes.
That is really pretty - it shimmers! I look forward to seeing what you do with the solids.
ReplyDeleteI’m glad you said you had some fabrics for 15 years. I keep thinking I need to use mine now. Your TAW is beautiful.

ReplyDeleteI am always inspired by your posts.
Colorwash Supreme ! I bet your dreams are in "exuberant color" too ! With that spread how could you not ! (^._.^). Thanks for the close up, it really shows how a Colorwash blossoms.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you have even more fabrics that are over 15 years old. I know I sure do.

ReplyDeleteStunning TATW - I love the way the red just seems to leap out from the top.
ReplyDeleteCaryl Fallert used to produce such beautiful solid colours, sadly I never bought any and when I thought that I might she had stopped dyeing fabric.
The movement in the delicious Kaffe fabrics makes your quilt sparkle like jewels! It needs to be your logo quilt - perfectly exuberant!
ReplyDeleteThose hand dyes are gorgeous! What model of Pfaff do you have? I have two 1475CD's and I wouldn't trade them for the world!
