I spent several hours yesterday going through my fabric looking for quilt backs. You have seen all of these quilts before so you will just see small portions this time with the backing fabrics I chose. This one is going to have 3 fabrics. Most of the back will be the taupe stripe with a smaller amount of the other 2 inserted in.
The 30s reproduction TAW will have a reproduction back.
The Big Blooms quilt will have some pretty flowers on the back too. I bought lots of yardage of this one on sale a long time ago.
Kaffe Meets Plaid will have a Liberty paisley that was in the group that Kaffe chose colors for. I think that line came out about 8 years ago.
My favorite African fabric quilt will have zebra stripes on the back. It is a 2 tone beige. I may still change my mind on this one if I find a better one in the next few days. I have just 6 more tops to match backings with now.
Hi Wanda, couple questions: first, when you see fabric on sale, how much do you buy so you’ll have enough for a backing? And I don’t remember, do you prewash your backings? Thanks, all gorgeous quilts, my favorite is Kaffe meets plaids.
ReplyDeleteBackings, for me, are stressful to pick and assemble. I love your choices. I have a hard time with the math and the last two I made, I goofed and had to do some inserts. My goal s to get backings done for all my waiting quilts.
ReplyDeleteI prepare my backs as soon as the top is finished - that way they are ready to quilt when I am. It does take more space to store them in the interim though ... I like that zebra print with your last top.
ReplyDeleteI like the zebra backing too. It looks like you are really serious about finishing up some projects. I would also like to know how much you purchase for fabrics intended as backings.
ReplyDeleteYou're on a roll! Great combinations!
ReplyDeleteA+++ on backing selections ... I enjoy your blog so much you make us feel like we're 'in your loop' every day. (^._.^)

Love your choice of backings for each top. The Big Blooms backing isI tend to pick out backings as I finish each top and have them with their respective tops on a 6 rung quilt ladder.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it fun to go shopping your own stash? Those are some great choices for the backs. I think I need to stock up on backings as I don't have hardly any long lengths in my stash right now.
ReplyDeleteGreat choices on each one.
