I finalized the layout of the OBW while keeping warm inside. It got up to about -11 at the warmest part of the day yesterday.
Then I had to fill in the edges with the triangles cut at the beginning and end of each stack of strips.
Here I have all of the triangles laying in place on the top and bottom.
It is slow going sewing it together because I'm pressing all seams open. The pressing takes awhile and so does the matching of points. I have 3 columns sewn together and 2 more sewn, one waiting to be pressed. I hope I can get this done today for another finished top for January.
It's so much fun to see the quilt 'shrink' as the pieces are sewn together. I love this quilt. I need to get my OBW out of the closet and finished.
ReplyDeleteYour OBW is looking great! I am so intrigued by these quilts & need to try one myself.
ReplyDeleteI love this! I really want to make one of these someday. What pattern are you using? Very pretty! It's cold here too. Stay warm!
ReplyDeleteI like your final layout. You are going to have it done for January? That means you will be sewing all day today! It got up to 10 here, but it was very windy so that made the temps feel like a negative number. We are forecasted to get in the 50's this weekend and on Monday. I will be glad to turn the heat down in the house. I had to turn the thermostat up to 62 to make sure the pipe didn't freeze and the house is just too hot for me. I had to open and close the bedroom window several times last night to cool down because I was just too hot.
ReplyDeleteNow I like your layout! I am afraid this pattern would drive me totally batty to sew. You have such patience to get it just right. So I will totally admire yours.
ReplyDeleteLove the final layout. Thanks for showing the original fabric a few posts ago. I have some wild parrot material that I have picked for a OBW. Not enough time to make everything!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!!! I get the concept of a one block wonder quilt, but I wonder about selecting fabric. What specific print characteristics, besides large and colorful, do you look for in a print for a OBW quilt and why?
ReplyDeleteThat looks so nice. It's such a great idea.
ReplyDeleteJust WOW. Don't you love the way this quilt turned out. I am new to pressing the seams open and while it makes the quilt seams less bulky, it sure takes a long time to press.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! Love doing OBW or stack’n’whack.
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful! I've been missing reading posts over the past view days so I'll go bakj and catch up on the beginning of this very colourful OBW.
ReplyDeleteYowsa - stunning! ElaineAdairPieces
ReplyDeleteOBW, truly is a wonder and you have taken it to a floral explosion ! It's been a a fun piece to watch grow.

I made a OBW several years ago and sadly, can't remember who I gave it to and what fabric I used. I probably have a pic of it on a computer disc format that is no longer accessible. I will see fabric that I think would make a good OBW or stack 'n ' whack, but hate to have to buy the amount of fabric needed.

I love this Wanda
ReplyDeleteLove it!!!!!!! Now I really do have to get my UFO out and finish it. Mine is ready for the design wall. The half hexies were fun to make, but I guess the next step has scared me into making it a UFO.
ReplyDeleteWhat great warm colors to be sewing in frigid weather!
