For those who asked, the Route 66 museum is in Plainfield IL. I think it is only open for parties and with a reservation, not as a business open all of the time. We were entertained by the old time juke box with the record player inside playing tunes from the 1950s.
This was typical band equipment of the late 1950s, the era of Elvis Presley and many others.
There was one section of Howard Johnson memorabilia.
The owners of the museum traveled through many states checking out antique stores for all of the signs and thermometers on all of the walls.
I'm surprised this cardboard sign survived all of this time in such good condition. Remember the photos enlarge if you click on them so you can see closer details. I'm without a car for a couple days while I get the air conditioning fixed in it so I should get a lot done at home. It is supposed to be in the 80s again for 2 days after cool rainy days last week.
Your photos the last few days remind me of my childhood trips across the USA.... and the stops in general... not just the Rt 66 ones. Funny how things are missed in your own backyard!

I would have enjoyed a reunion in such an interesting environment. I've always lived multi-states away for my high school reunions and that isn't likely to change any time soon. My car has four new tires thanks to a flat this morning (caused by a nail in the sidewall). NOT inexpensive but worth having things that work.
That place looks amazing! It is finally going to cool off here on Thursday. I am not looking forward to the heat at work for the next three days.
