I went to my 60th class reunion last night. The old Route 66 went right through the town where I went to high school and someone there collected Route 66 memorabilia for many years and created a museum. That is where our reunion was held and it was so much nicer than some noisy fancy restaurant.
There used to be scales like this in many stores where you could insert a coin and see your weight. How different the world is today with a scale or two in almost every household.
I really don't remember the gas pumps much because we had or own gas tank on the farm and only had to buy gas at a station when on a trip.
We had 44 in our class, 18 are deceased. There were 14 class members (plus 8 spouses) attending the reunion. There are always some who live close but choose not to attend and we really wanted to see them too.
What a great place to have a class reunion and so much memorabilia to see and bring back lost memories. I loved the coffee mug in the first photo shaped like a toilet (bottom left) pun intended haha. Glad you had a great time meeting old buddies.
ReplyDeleteThe sun is out today but it's not warm - supposed to be having an 'indian summer' this coming week - do you use that expression?
Our class was about 365 kids. I’ve only gone to one reunion because I never hung out with any of my classmates. I think many people enjoy the reunions. I like seeing all the memorabilia of Route 66. I’ve traveled the entire route to California.
ReplyDeleteMy 40th class reunion is this year and you couldn't pay me to go. My one friend from high school died in August and the rest aren't really even acquaintances at this point. I wish I had enjoyed high school but all I really remember of it is that I couldn't wait to get to college! Plus we don't have a cool museum to host it in!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great place to have your reunion Wanda. You are so correct regarding the noise of a restaurant or banquet hall, even with a smaller group. I've only attended one of mine, and being that our class was over 400, once was enough. The Chicago school I attended had a very large population, and didn't afford the close knit feeling of a smaller rural school. Glad you had a good time, and love the pictures.
ReplyDelete"GET YOUR KICKS ON ROUTE 66". OH YEH.
ReplyDeleteA great meeting place for your reunion- so much nostalgia! Fun photos.
ReplyDeleteMy husband said to tell you "Great post today Wanda". He loved it ! (*._.*) And so did I, Thats one museum we want to check out, on our next trip back to IL. What a grand, neat and tidy museum. And such a fun place to hold a reunion. I'm so happy the rain held off for your reunion.
ReplyDeleteI love reunions, and catching up with old, old, classmates. I've become closer to one of my classmates since our 50th reunion, we never had the opportunity in H.S. to do things together. We don't get to now either, but we email almost daily. (*._.*).

Hi Wanda: I love your blog, quilts and color combos. Would you please lets us know where the Route 66 museum is located? Thanks. Those photos bring back some terrific memories of family road trips. Made me think of my dad filling the canvas water bag that was hung in front of the car's grill.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great place to have your reunion. I think you really had a great turnout for a 60 year reunion. yes, I do remember those scales; some of them even had a fortune that popped out when you put your penny in.
ReplyDeleteHave a sweet week.
Connie :)
I'm glad you were able to reminisce and meet some old friends. It does sound like a great location for a reunion. I am one of those who live in the neighborhood but don't attend the reunions.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a great place to have a reunion. Not only could you revisit with friends, but you had a chance to revisit the items of the high school days.
